Once again Essendon pulls the wrong lever. By stonewalling and ignoring Hunter, they send him to the press as his only option to make them come clean. They truly are scum.

I'd bet that a lot of the media that defended the Bombers had no idea how the Bombers had treated Hunter.

And sadly there'd be just as many that knew exactly how they treated him and still defended them anyway. In an industry that lowers the bar of standards noticeably each year the lack of ability of many in the media to put their team allegiances to one side and report the truth set a new depth for how far their profession could sink.

How Rohan Connelly and Mark Robinson kept their jobs is astounding, the fact they expect the public to give them any credibility going forward is even more laughable.

The show tonight was once again damning to the club. This won't be finished any time soon

Supporters of Essendon say Hunter is out for revenge because he was delisted. What will they say when Heppell, Watson etc. put their hand out for loss of sponsorship dollars.

It is mind blowing and I cannot comprehend what Hal Hunter and the other players are going through, not knowing what they have been infected with.

It's a long way short of being over.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

Some people won't agree with this but listening to Hunter tonight I do feel sorry for the younger players and can understand how the younger players never questioned what was going on. They just thought the whole thing was normal in a so called professional club.

The older players should have raised the concerns, but again in a team environment, players trust the coaches and management and do as they are told. Yes, it was wrong and they should have spoken up.

Out of all of this saga, the AFL management really has a lot to answer for. Essendon should have had their licence suspended for at minimum two years and this should have all been over several years ago, but this continual denial that they did no wrong just drags it on and on.

Hunter and every player have the right to know what was injected into them - that is not unreasonable.

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

I liked the bit about Charter signing a form confirming that the drugs sourced from Biochem (and subsequently compounded and injected into Bomber players) were not to be used for human consumption as they were unfit for human use.

Also liked the bit about the players being injected offsite with a growth hormone drug prescribed for a muscular dystrophy patient and sourced from Mexico.

This club should be folded. They aren't fit to be in this league. And the entire AFL Commissioners and management involved during this saga should stand down and be replaced. I might then start to give a shit about the game again.

What I thought was telling (from the extracted article) is having a to admit to medical professionals that there is an aspect of your medical history that you have no idea about. You don't know what you were injected with.

I can see serious long term issues for Essendon arising from this. Imagine, that 4 or 5 of the players contract a serious disease or die young of a heart condition (see Flo Jo). I hope it doesn't happen, but if it does there will be suspicion at least that it is the supplements causing this.

                      Terrible situation.

Both of them are no better than some bloke leaning against a round table at the builders arms. The weight of their views is about as valuable. Rohan Conally stinks it up in the tipping every single year, seems to have no idea. Post scandal, I blame the fans for Slobbo. AFL fans are way too conciliatory to that sort of idiot and we should be lighting up the switchboards to demand he get off the air.

The biggest thing that needs to come out of this is that Footy club culture, and that includes grassroots clubs as well, needs to be absolutely turned on its head.

It has almost become a cult mentality whereby any little advantage that can be gained over the opposition is taken, risks or consequences be damned.

Where young men are indoctrinated from a young and impressionable stage in their life that the footy club is what matters most and that you need to 'do the right thing by your mates'.

Its that mentality that has allowed this saga to unfold. It has allowed coaches at grassroots clubs to have their players taking ice before a big game to pick them up. It has turned a blind eye to young men risking permanent pain and disability to 'get through the next game'.

The game's ruling bodies need to start pushing back a lot harder on the clubs that tiptoe on the edge of the rules.

I see that Essendon are not going to pursue Hal Hunter over court costs. That is at least something. This entire saga is just shameful. It's riddled with dishonesty and the contempt shown for the interests of the players, for whom the club and its officers owed a duty of care, is appalling.

That baffles me too. An Essendon tragic on the bench? Seems pretty unjust in the circumstances.
