Jones will not be fine for Round #1 - he won't return to full training for 8-10 weeks!!!!
Western Bulldogs defender Liam Jones will miss the beginning of the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season after sustaining a high-grade hamstring strain.
The 33-year-old suffered the injury during match simulation on the Sunshine Coast yesterday.
The injury will see Liam miss the upcoming Indigenous All Stars game on 15 February and the early rounds of the season.
It is estimated Jones will make a return to full training in 8-10 weeks.

Yep, Gutted on Jones, but not too many elite tall forwards over the first few weeks either, should be able to cover it.Comment

Adjusting to a higher running volume and load takes time for players to properly absorb and gain the benefits. Older athletes, who typically recover more slowly, are at a higher risk of soft tissue injuries with such changes.
I’m no professional or expert, just a hobby jogger, but I can definitely relate. Even slight increases in my running volume or intensity always seem to take a toll on my body. The secret is to progress slowly and consistently, allowing the body time to adapt. Let’s hope the players who can handle the added load come out stronger for it.
I am happy with the Dogs pre-season, it has an edge to it, and not too bothered by the injuries so far, as long as Jones is back and 100% by round 4.
I would rather loose a few, and have the 12-30 best players on this list rock hard fit and ready.
As far as the soft tissue injuries goes, cannot use JJ as an example, it is the body he has, moving on.
Jones, older, powerful athlete, flies up to Sunny Coast, sleeps in a different bed, and was probably feeling great, it happens.
Trelor, well this started in round 23 last year, and never healed. It screams of upper tendon involvement, and he has history, moving on.👍 3Comment

Yep, you can't nurse a playing list through a preseason and think injuries will result in a great season.
We've copped injuries to 3 older players but it creates opportunities for others.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Western Bulldogs forward Cody Weightman out for three months with knee injury
The goalkicker is set for a months-long stint on the sidelines as he prepares for surgery.
The Western Bulldogs have suffered another major injury blow with Cody Weightman set to miss the first half of the 2025 AFL season.
7NEWS understands the dynamic forward is headed for knee surgery that will sideline him for at least three months.
The 24-year-old has battled an ongoing issue around his kneecap for much of the summer, with surgery seen as the best course of action to correct the injury.

As coach Luke Beveridge enters the season in the final year of his contract and in a fight to save his job, he’ll begin the new campaign without five first-choice players.
Weightman’s knee surgery adds to off-season setbacks for Adam Treloar (calf), Liam Jones and Jason Johannisen (both hamstrings).
Last year’s leading goalkicker Jamarra Ugle-Hagan will also miss the early stages of the season with no timeline on an AFL playing return after taking time away from the club over summer to deal with personal issues.
Only Ugle-Hagan and key forward Aaron Naughton have kicked more goals than Weightman over the past two seasons.
Weightman last year kicked 27 goals from 17 matches after dealing with a groin injury and undergoing elbow surgery.
Despite their growing injury toll, skipper Marcus Bontempelli says the Dogs are still aiming high.
The 2016 premiers and 2021 grand finalists have consistently been in and around finals without delivering in recent years — and Bontempelli wants that to change.
“That’s been the goal every single season we step out on the field and then obviously it doesn’t always play out that way, and there’s different reasons for why that is,” he said.
“But of course we want to contend. I mean, I think we’d be wasting our time and everyone else’s if that wasn’t our mentality.
“That’s my attitude when I walk in the building every single morning, it’s with the hope that we can play as deep as we can every single season.
“So the talk is cheap now because we’ve barely started, real preparations against other opposition is still a month or so to go.
“... Until we start playing and improving it, the talk’s cheap.”
Questions over Beveridge’s future loom over the season, but if it’s bothering the coach, Bontempelli isn’t aware.
“I haven’t noticed it at all, to be honest. I think he’s in a really good headspace at the minute,” he said
“He’s coaching with great confidence.
“I think the group around him: Spang (Matt Spangler) and Daniel Pratt, Ladey (Brendon Lade), Matty Egan and our development coach as well, the mix has been really strong and definitely helped him a lot in his pursuit to be the best influence he can be on our team.
“So I haven’t noticed any anything really out of the ordinary from him, and he just continues to be a strong influence on our group.”

How unlucky!!!!!!
The 24-year-old has the rare congenital condition called bipartite patella, which involves a false joint that sits within his kneecap bone.
Chris Bell, Bulldogs Head of Sports Medicine, said surgery had been deemed the best way to address the issue after a lack of improvement over the pre-season.
“This injury has not caused Cody any concerns across his career until he received some direct impact on it during a pre-season training session,” Bell said.
“Conservative management has failed to improve Cody’s symptoms, meaning surgery has become the best option.Comment
