    Re: 2016 Draft Watch

I've had a good look and there are a number of players I would be interested in for our early picks.

For Pick 18 I think it's hard to look past the likes of Jarrod Berry, Jy Simpkin, Jordan Gallucci, Todd Marshall, Cedric Cox and Sam Powell-Pepper although I could also see us putting in a bid for GWS Academy player Harrison Macreadie to potentially take a bit of sting out of GWS. Given he is a good KP prospect anyway it wouldn't be a problem if by miracle GWS didn't match the bid. I think it could be either SPP, Berry or Cedric Cox.

For pick 26, I'd have players like Oliver Florent, Jordon Ridley, Will Hayward, Tom Williamson, Brennan Cox and Jarrod Berry I'd be considering. Hayward, and Gallucci would be good selections.

You can find knocks on a number of players but they all have the right sort of skills that could be developed. Will Hayward for example is athletically very good however, he is a poor kick. It then becomes a decision around if his other attributes mean his kicking isn't that important or if a club thinks they can improve the kicking.

I like the look of Tom Williamson who tested exceptionally well and just reads the play as good as anyone. He's a nice height of 189cm and very young so I think he has a lot of scope for improvement. Pick 26 is too high for him but the times I've seen him he's been impressive. Pick 50 would be a nice get.

I might have some other names to add to the list later on.

I tend to agree though that we need to find mids that use the ball well but the primary skill needs to be that they are capable of getting their own footy or have the pace to hurt a side with their run and carry.

Mids that are good kicks and agile talls
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Thanks for those posts GVGjr, always enjoy reading your thoughts on potential draftees.

Whilst we have not been defined by a need for pure field kicking, it seems as though an ability to hit the scoreboard (when not a great kick) is a trait we really put an emphasis on. If we chase a forward/midfielder I wouldn't be surprised to see us go down this path again, given we have a few neat users in Webb, Dale and Hamilton to come in to those type of roles.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Jordan Ridley ticks a few boxes for us, great pace and very good skills. There are quite a few rangy half back flanker, midfielder types this year.

Scott Clayton must be in heaven!

With 4 weeks to go have you locked in your predictions for our picks?

It's a bit hard to get excited by the picks we have but the players I would probably lean towards would be different to the players we would likely select.

I was intending to post something on the Melbourne Cup holiday.

I've been whittling down lists for a bit, reading reports and watching videos. For each pick the 4 I'm cheering for at this stage are:

18 - Griffin Logue, Todd Marshall, Jarrod Berry, Jordan Ridley.
26 - Josh Rotham, Jordan Gallucci, Brennan Cox, Josh Battle.
50 (& 75 if used) - Ben Long, Tom Williamson, Cameron Zurhaar, Patrick Lipinski, Sam McLarty

                      Good list PP

It would be difficult to see Logue and Marshall still to be there at pick 18. They would be great additions if they were still available with Marshall an outside chance and one who could shape our selections.

Rotham both disappointed and delighted with his testing. Elite sprinting times including the repeat sprints and his leaping ability is impressive but his endurance is a mile off with a 12-9 in the beep test and in the bottom bracket with his V02 testing. His 3km result was a touch over 11 minutes and at the lower end.
Gallucci is a genuine all round prospect with some slight knocks on his kicking. We would have to take him early.

GVG, you're probably right with Logue & Marshall. A lot of the phantom drafters though seem to be set on a top 10-12, with Logue and Marshall consistently in the next group (12ish to 25). Either could be a slider. Marshall is the high risk, high return type a few might be nervous to use a 1st rounder on.

Shai Bolton is one who interests me as a pacey small forward. Anyone have a view on him?

He's one that I thought might have been a good option for us earlier in the season but I dropped off him. His game in the U-18's exhibition game though was eye catching.
