Possibly, but I don’t think GCS want higher bids at all. So I wouldn’t think so. I think the issue might be etiquette and relationships more than anything. But if we rated both then it’s fine. If it’s strategic of our part, they might be a little shitty. But they have our F1 so they’ll be ok.

Crows I recall have a bit of a history of bidding on our players (Marra), possibly Essendon too?

Have there been many examples of clubs really reaching with father/son or academy nominations? I feel like the vast majority either go about where expected or even slide a little. I doubt there is a top 10 bid on Croft.

One could argue Dacois and Ashcroft slid!

The problem that we have is that all Clubs are aware that there’s no chance that we wouldn’t push heaven and earth to match a bid on Croft after our pick 5. ‘Hypothetically’ what would be our position re Croft if Melbourne were to nominate him with their current pick 6. Having sold the farm with our F1 could we still make it work?

                If that a risk.

Pick 6 - Dogs nominate Read (GCS match)
Pick 7 - Dogs nominate Rogers (GCS match)
Pick 8 - Watson or Sanders
Pick 9 - Dees nominate Croft - Dogs match

Pick 41+ - Whomever nominates Lual - Dogs match

                Dogs have no deficit.

If I was going to guess which team might be the most interested in Croft it would be Sydney.
Melbourne's window is now and Croft is a project so he changes nothing for them.

I suspect Essendon, then Melbourne will consider bids on Croft ahead of Sydney's selection

Cal Twomey on Gettable said he thinks Croft may not go as high as recently predicted, ie top 10-15. He might go a bit later than that.

Great! Now is when he starts getting mail from club land to turn him power rankings into his Phantom. Hopefully we can infer he’s getting mail to that effect.

That makes sense because he's such a long term prospect given he will need to physically develop.
If he goes after pick 15 as Cal suggests, we can easily match a bid in that range.

The math says we can easily enough get him and Lual at Pick 9. The question in this scenario is what?s left over if it?s say Pick 16-17. It could be picks 53 & 56 are completely untouched at 16-17. Now if GCS suns, Hawks and us use 14 picks matching 6 players then 53 & 56 could become picks in the late 40?s.

If Lual slips just over 40 that?s him done with the 197 point discount, but with surplus. Then it?s whether our fourth pick is using say then Pick 49, or do we live trade it for a future pick owing to only having two live picks next year currently.

If Lual falls over I could see a scenario of live trading one or both picks. Pick 46 would be used unless Lual is bid before. If he is that would decimate that pick and should be live traded out for a later pick and future pick (if we want Lual). Then we may do that again depending on the Lual bid. Then use the points from a later bid to cover Lual and if there?s not many picks overall used, grab our late pick too.

Ideally, if Croft can go around 17-18, leaving 53 & 56 to become 46 & 49, if Lual could just slide to 47-50, we could walk away with Watson/Sanders, Croft and two mid third rounders selected (one being Lual) - or a slightly later pick and scoring a F3. Plus we have 3 x Fourths to sell if anyone is buying, to try to get a F4?s.

On this point, if Croft slides and Lual slides, it might be worth taking in the Pick 69 as that could come into say Pick 62. That would cover Lual at bid 47. That could allow us to trade both thirds for future picks and a later pick. But that would mean we need to take in seven spots so we?d need to cut Croz & Dom to get to 7 or rebalance the list. If Croft sliding is real, I?d prefer to take in 69 with points for strategic reasons if we can bolster our hand next year. Then if needed just re-draft Dom back late if we want him to cover our main list spots.

This opens us up for some very active live trading if it comes to pass.
