Weirdly enough, Matty Croft spent his first few games there and he was KPP size in his day

And dare we whisper the name... Cheesy Barlow?

You can shout his name if you want - I was seat 1A on that bandwagon and there were plenty of spare seats.

Really tricky for the club but he's not likely to pressure the club into playing him much in 2024 given he needs a lot of physcial development work to add some size and strength.

We've already got an oversupply on tall forwards because as Darcy also seems to be better suited to play as a key forward.
Naughton, Marra, Lobb and Darcy are more than enough to cover key forward duties but Croft will have to wait for his opportunities.
Even if Darcy plays as a defender, Croft is going to have to wait patiently.

I guess we are committed to take him regardless. It would be hard to explain to most supporters if in the unlikely scenario we were to not match a bid on him.

Would he think he will get better options going somewhere else? With that many young tall fowards ahead of him?

Croft is yet to commit to the club so one would think surely he and his manager are thinking this.

The club is confident he has committed.

Croft?s year is done with Calder dropping out of the finals. So now it?s just the combine testing that could shape is final position. Right now his range is pick 11 (Twomey) to 14 (ESPN). With our first pick after likely compo/bids pick 14.

I did read that. I’d be staggered if he didn’t commit to us and we didn’t commit to him. Hopefully he drifts to mid teens and beyond.

I can’t see him not committing, it’s not like his dad had a falling out with the club, I would imagine he and his dad would love him to play with us .
Wasnt the old man on the comittee with us not that long ago ?

He's not going to be ready for a couple of years at least. Who knows what the list landscape will be by then.

There's every chance we're paying a second and/or a couple of third round picks for a first-round (range) talent, after the bidding & discount process is complete. Forget the name, on balance clubs say yes to that every day of the week.

I know bev has talked about JOD as a long term winger. I?d rather just play JOD as a tall defender and settle him. He looks like an a grade back to me which is a position of need.

If croft is an endurance athlete, it could be worth developing him as a tall wingman early on given it?s going to be tricky fitting him forward. You can also get away with a leaner body type on a wing.

I have always loved the idea of playing a key position height wingman so long as they can run and have polished skills (not always easy to find).

Didn't Rory Lobb play on a wing against us in the 2016 Preliminary Final?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

                          ESPN updated their power ranking:

Dogs pick 14 (assuming North get pick 3)

                          15. Jordan Croft
                          Calder Cannons/Vic Metro
                          FWD, 200cm, 80kg
Talent League: 11 games, 10.2 disposals, 2.1 goals

Croft is a super athlete, flying high and boasting superb acceleration on the lead. He's a nightmare match-up because of these traits as a 200-centimetre key forward. He lacks consistency because he struggled to get involved up the ground, but is an exciting player set to join the Dogs as a father-son selection.

Power definitely tried to temper expectations on Croft yesterday on that weird gettable podcast.

Will be two years at least until we see Croft play. Very much inline with what GVGjr said.

I’m ok with that, let him learn from Lobb and take over when Lobb retires. Great transition strategy. A near top 10 kid for a handful of late picks.

While I get your point, ideally the one who should be learning from Lobb is Darcy but to balance things out he might have to play in the back line. In time we might have some juggling to do to manage Naughton, Marra, Darcy and Croft's time up forward.
If the coach decides that 3 talls doesn't quite work in his plans we really will have some challenges.

Croft's attitude is a positive and he even he has a bit of swagger. I wonder if there could be a way of having Josh Bruce work with him.
