Note: They have three academy picks before him. So with pick 10, they are suggesting we have effective pick 13. Or 14 if North get Pick 3 compo or Sanders.

So then both our firsts are after the bid. Hence why Ralphy is saying what we all know - that we are trying to package up our firsts to get well into the top 10.

So the consensus range seems to be Pick 11 (Twomey) to Pick 13 (Rookie Me).
ESPN today have Croft being bid on at 14. But with matched bids before hand.

Just more evidence we will need to trade up the order.

I think this is great, and reckon Power will get it done. So we'll get a top 6 and Croft. Awesome draft.

That would be huge for us. Hopefully Croft knows how to play defense like his old man did

Two top 15 kids, one top 10, is a great night. Last time we had that was Naughton & Ed.

              What’s crofts endurance like?

I know bev has talked about JOD as a long term winger. I’d rather just play JOD as a tall defender and settle him. He looks like an a grade back to me which is a position of need.

If croft is an endurance athlete, it could be worth developing him as a tall wingman early on given it’s going to be tricky fitting him forward. You can also get away with a leaner body type on a wing.

I have always loved the idea of playing a key position height wingman so long as they can run and have polished skills (not always easy to find).

Crofts athletic enough but at this stage he is more of a mark and kick player.

Agree with Bevo on this. JOD would be an outstanding wingman with his height and endurance. Elite build for whatever position he plays but would be hard to match up on playing on the wing.

Has anybody not named Matthew Richardson ever played the KP sized winger role at a high level? Sounds good in theory but I can't think of too many success stories.

Did Riewoldt do it? Is it one of the positions Blicavs has played well?

Fair call. I don't recall if either have played significant time on the wing but I don't doubt they both could be successful there as both are/were freakishly good athletes for their size (as was Richo).

I guess the point is it takes a really rare and special type of tall to play wing at a high level. There are always calls for player X to play wing as they are tall and good athletically but the reality is most players of this type won't be able to make it work.

100% agree. If there are maybe 3 players to do it well in the last 20 odd years it's clearly easier said than done. If anything it seems easier for these big guys to play in the guts (Bont, Kouta, Pavlich etc)

By the time he starts to mature and contribute, Jones, Keath, Lobb will be retiring and we will be looking for 200cm players.

Simon Cox at the Hawks after we delisted him was very successful for one season. No taste for the contest and an excellent kick. Couldn't cut it as a KPP for us but came second in the Hawks B&F on the wing, then delisted by them a year later.

Not KPP size by today's standards, but was then.

Pretty much irrelevant to the thread, just popped into my head upon reading Axe Man's post.
