Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk
OK, we all hate Barratt but I recall a recent interesting comment from him.
Went something like this:
Don't underestimate the effect of state lockdowns this season on players etc and expect some surprise trades with players wanting to return home.
Maybe they may be some surprise opportunities to get some Vics home? The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.Comment

Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk
Easy thing to say trade English but who to bring in? Lobb/Ladhams? um really? Where is the upgrade?
We are without Bruce most of next year, Martin is basically cooked, you gotta find a legitimate Forward and Ruck to come in or else there is no deal. I cant see it being an option until the year after.
Marra Darcy Schache backing up Naughty next year? No thanks not when you're in the window.
Do we lose leverage with English out of contract end of 2022?More of an In Bruges guy?Comment

Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk
I doubt we'll see much (if any) in the way of announcements or players we're targeting until after our B&F.
As frustrating as it is in the short term, Power runs a far tighter ship than previous list managers we've had.
He has cryptically mentioned the time for stockpiling kids is over so aside from Darcy and perhaps Cat B rookies, I suspect we'll at least try to be a bit more aggressive this year.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk
This sounds like English will stay, and now we're linked with Ladhams:
Western Bulldogs tall Tim English is keen to re-sign with the club, reports The Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph.
English, who’s contracted until the end of 2022, has struggled to cement his spot as the Bulldogs’ No. 1 ruck and was moved forward this season after the club acquired veteran big man Stefan Martin.
And North Melbourne great David King told SEN radio on Monday that he believes English is expendable to the Bulldogs and could be put up for trade after his lacklustre Grand Final performance, saying the 24-year old “isn’t going to get much better”.
But Ralph told Fox Sports News’ AFL Tonight that English has no plans to depart Whitten Oval.
“My understanding is that English is really keen to stay in Melbourne. He’ll wait until midway through next year to consider a contract extension,” he said.
“His girlfriend has just signed a two-year Super Netball contract in Perth. But they’ve been living in a long-distance relationship, she’s been in Queensland (so) I don’t think that changes things.”Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk
Do we have cap space for an A-Grader? If an A-Grader is going to be, say $650k+ minimum... probably more per year.
I'd be surprised if we're able to bring in 2 guns, but maybe we can get someone who is underperforming/under utilised in their current club, or someone like Keath who is an A-grader but probably doesn't have the years and years of high-performance to warrant the big price tag (yet).
No idea who that is, but as much as I'd love Grundy I think we can all recognise we can't fit $1mil a year in our cap (probably) unless we move out someone who is on serious coin already (or Collingwood pay 30% again)
Trade Radio suggests English wants to delay contract talks until the middle of next year this might spook the club to consider trading him to the Eagles who might like to have him partner Nic Nat.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk
Weird it says us and Geelong are interested. They have about 4 rucks on their list already. Ladhams at a good price would be handy.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

So the two clubs who need an actual ruckman are going after a part time ruckman at best who has questionable off field habits!More of an In Bruges guy?Comment

Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk
Geelong are as bad as we are with rucks. They have Stanley who is barely ok, Darcy Fort who can't run, Ratagolea who is a 2nd ruck / average forward who occasionally looks good, and not much else unless they want to use Blicavs who is basically Tim English with paceWestern Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk
Why would you trade a ruckman when we are already struggling to put one on the park? Who do you get to replace them? Why can't we sign up another ruck and have both? We need depth and even though English is not a number one ruck, he can still be a good second ruck.FFC: Established 1883

Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk
Laterally thinking:
Trade 2022 First Rounder for GCS Pick 19 and fringe player (or Pick 72) if there is one
Dogs hold 17 & 19
Trade 17 for 22 & 43 off GCS (net 200 more DPS)
Trade 19 for 29 & 36 off WCE (net 200 more DPS)
Trade 22 for 28 & 44 off Richmond (not 200 Draft points, it could be a slightly lesser second pick when they get it)
Trade Young & 72 for a small upgrade into DPS territory. Say early 60’s. Say Wallis gets FA compo at Pick 55. Lipinski a future pick. Collingwood won’t trade a 2021 pick. They may threaten PSD if we don’t accept a future pick. So my guess is if there’s no player involved from their end, then a future pick may have to suffice.
Dogs hold 28, 29, 36, 43, 44, 55, early 60’s & possibly JJ.
Use 28 & 29 to trade. JJ getting a mid to high 3rd Rounder means no deficit for Sam Darcy at Pick 3.
So multiple trades of players and securing Sam Darcy without deficit. Lose the 2022 1st which is likely to be impacted anyway, but an extra future Pick from Lipinski in next years Draft hand. Trades next year strengthen that again.
To comply with rules, if our future first goes the other rounds must remain in tact. But the round of the Lipinski Pick, we can hold onto that but can put up our pick, if we wanted to trade that too.
This brings in two players worth 20’s Pick, looks at free agents, secures Sam Darcy without a deficit and has 3 or 4 picks next year, but without a 2022 First. Which I just don’t see us holding owing to our DPs.
If you want to be more aggressive you simply spend more picks on trades this year, or don’t trade down a first and take a hit to the 2022 Second Rounder. But like everything in particular, there’s a 1,000 different ways things are going to go.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk
If you look across the league players such as Rory Lobb, Peter Ladhams, Mason Cox, Tim English, Ratagolea they all seem to be on a hiding to nothing. Not good enough as a 1st ruck and not good enough forward to be a 2nd ruck.
I get we don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater but I am genuinely concerned what English can offer us moving forward.More of an In Bruges guy?Comment

They'd also be wanting to move him on as he is dead set average as a ruckman and as a forward.More of an In Bruges guy?Comment
