Why do we keep bleeding tall defenders when it’s something we always say we need. I don’t understand. It’s chronic.Comment

Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk
Well we obviously didn’t see Young as a tall defender so haven’t really lost one. I thought that was his best position but clearly the coaches don’t. But we’ve offered him a deal so clearly see value in him somewhere. Maybe it’s just as depth and our offer reflected that. Who knows. We can’t honestly know given how we’ve handled him.Comment

11:30AM — DOGS FIELDING OFFERS FOR PICK 17
Tom Morris reports...
The Western Bulldogs are fielding offers from at least two clubs for Pick 17.
Adelaide and Richmond are keen on the selection for different reasons.
The Crows would like to move up the draft order so they can use the pick on Jordan Dawson, while the Tigers are keen to package later selections to have more of a presence in the first round.
It remains to be seen whether Sydney would even accept Pick 17 for Dawson, though Adelaide and other list managers believe it’s about right for the 24-year-old.
“I think its important for everyone to know that he was and is a big part of our future,” Sydney CEO Tom Harley said to the club’s website.
“We had big plans for Jordan and it was reflected, certainly from an offer that we put in front of Jordan, so if there is to be a negotiation there, we would expect that to be respectful and to reflect his standing at our club and the standing in the competition and potential.”
Currently Adelaide has no picks between 4 and 23, but they have 37, 44 and future picks that could be used to entice the Dogs into a deal.
Richmond’s draft hand – once Callum Coleman-Jones goes to North Melbourne – is very strong.
They currently have seven picks inside 47 that will becomes eight once the Roos and Tigers come to an agreement on the key forward.
Richmond would love to have a third first rounder and this is why they are eyeing off the Dogs Pick 17 to add to 7 and 15.FFC: Established 1883

Ha I’m sure Adelaide are gonna have to cough up more than Richmond if they want it. No way we’re just gonna help them out. This is why you don’t act like dicks during trade period/draft time.Comment

Jones doubt anyone cared at the time, still not sure he’s that good does some flashy stuff.
Hamling I have sentimental attachment to, yes that’s a loss.
Roughead see Hamling but he wasn’t a KPD with us.
Adams definite loss for mine but injury prone.
Get the sentiment but I’m not sure if it’s as clear cut.
FWIW I’d be having a quiet chat with Astbury, although dragging guys out of retirement isn’t usually a high percentage play.BT COME BACK!

Trengove kind of fits too. Didn’t play him while he was there. There’s a definite pattern. We pick them badly, or we develop them
Badly, or we play them out of position or not at all…… whatever the reason, we just keep seeing them walk out the door. It’s frustrating to say the least.Comment

Thanks for doing that research BT. I knew there was a pattern but bed ridden with chronic back pain and just couldn’t do the research.

Not sure there's a pattern. Hamling left for family reasons after one year and a premiership. Talia was a dickhead and walked himself out, whilst Adams was always a square peg in a round hole in our environment and possibly Melbourne.
Jones had plenty of opportunities with us, and it was a hail Mary that enabled him to play as a defender in the VFL and good on him for resurrecting his career.
Roughead and Young are the ones that worry me a bit, though for different reasons. I'll never know why Roughy fell out of love with the club, though if I was to guess it would be a blend of player behaviours at the time and issues with the coach. But we did develop him as a ruck to the extent he was good enough to win a premiership in the position - albeit with the help of the third man up - and not many around here though Bmac was smart in playing him as a defender. Once his body started becoming less and less reliable we lost trust in him and I think that probably contributed as well.
With Young we'll never know why he is overlooked as often as he is, though I have my suspicions the reasons relate to inability to cover ground in a system and use the ball effectively. If he makes it to Carlton good luck to him, he's still quite immature so you never know what may come of him.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment
