McKercher goes before Watson and I am playing a lone hand in thinking he could be better than Reid as a mid.

Watson's field kicking is excellent and he's as natural a footballer as you can imagine.

I watched the champs last year and as in under anger just looked a class above.

Honestly my only question is his ability to play midfield so if we want a mid I?d go Mckercher from what I?ve seen.

Sounds like you?d be as happy with him or even more so than most of the other reputed top draft picks? Thanks in advance GG.
No offence taken. It would be a very offensive site in my current shape.

Very different to Weightman. Cody relies a lot more on his marking.
You could be right regarding the pressure acts.

Sanders is a terrific player and has some JHF type traits. If the AFL don't approve Norths proposal he should be in the mix for us.
He's very versatile and a good mark for his size. There is a lot to like about his abilities.

Agreed - I think if we're looking for a mid and Watson/Mckercher are already off the board, we shouldn't walk away disappointed with Sanders (pending us getting this early pick).

I think because hit gait looks a little 'awkward' he's marked down, but his kicking is good and he's a very smart user of the footy going inside F50, he'll do it as an inside/outside mid and you often see him break from contests and carry the ball so I'm intrigued to see how his speed tests at the Combine.

He looks ready to go physically too - I think he'll plug into a side round 1 next year.

He reminds me of Brad Johnson in how he cruises around the field - socks up, upright run, stocky build, but in style he's probably closer to someone like Callan Ward.

Very noticeable on field too, but that might just be his Paddle-Pop lion style hair

                        Re: 2023 Draft Watch

Took the trip to my old home town of Bendigo yesterday to watch a couple of Coates Talent League games

Tassie lost yesterday but they've got some wonderful players
James Leake, and Jack Callinan starred and Arie Schoenmaker could be a nice pick-up later in the draft. Leake played forward after spending most of the season as a defender and is impressive. Good size, solid mark and an accurate kick.
McKercher was a bit quiet after a good 1st quarter but kicked a goal early.

Eastern were just too strong. Watson and Windsor caught the eye a couple of times but weren't standouts.
Watson has a bit of the yips with his goals kicking at the moment.

In the other game the Dragons were way too strong for the Falcons.
Young Ashcroft is a star player and Archie Roberts was noticeable.

                        Should be a good GF

                          Re: 2023 Draft Watch

Thought I should expand a bit and add some more detail on some of the players from yesterday

James Leake needs to be closer to the top 10 draft picks this year. He's moved from an intercept defender early in the season to a highly productive forward. He's mobile, reads the play nicely, a strong mark and most importantly is capable of kicking long and accurate goals. Highly impressive and he was even switched into the midfield at times.

Arie Schoenmaker is a solid defender who possess a thumping kick and that really stood out yesterday. His ability to grab and intercept mark and then use his kicking skills to find team mates in the open really stood out. In a draft that that has some taller defenders who are likely to go early Schoenmaker could a nice pick up later in the draft.

Jack Callinan is a smart small forward or mid type and kicked 3 goals yesterday. A good tough player and kicks the ball equally as well of both feet.

It was McKercher's first game back from an injury so I don't think he was quite fit enough.

Reports during the match suggested McKercher was quiet.

GVGjr I think you might be right on him being underdone as I’m fairly sure he said during last week he wasn’t a certainty to play but wanted to.

G has your opinion of the Wizard Watson changed over the last month or so.
It seems he has struggled a tad....? Love your insight.

He missed a month of footy so it's not surprising that he was quiet in the 2nd half. Really like him as a player though and I'd be keen to get him if we were to move up the order.
