    Dogs give: Bailey Smith
    Geel give: Pick 7 + F1

I wonder if there's a way we would trade Bailey to get a F1 back? All under the assumption he's happy to go.
Supposedly we rejected pick 3 for Smith. I wonder if 7 plus a future first would change some minds?

Also is it possible the future first is only if someone offers a better deal to the Suns (has previously been mentioned as potentially the future first)? Tom running with 10+17 here 12 minutes ago

We're still needlessly giving up a F1 though. Smith should get pick 7 plus a future 1st on its own (with maybe us giving something small back).

I can't see stuff on Twitter BTW just the one tweet someone links (they made it you need an account again)

            Age saying
            Out: 10,17 & F1
            In: 4, 2 x 3rds this year & F3

The reads poorly. Future first could be pretty close to pick 4 for 3 3rd rounders. Are we just desperate?

Well, if the trade with GC hinges on it then it isn't needless.

              Effectively it would be;

In: Pick 4, Pick 7, F1 tied to Geelong, Croft
Out: Pick 10, Pick 17, F1, Bailey Smith

              I'd do that.

I just don't think having one tagger solves any of this. I would say that using a tagger compromises/limits your ability to defend a cbd.

Maybe it doesn?t always work- but at least we would have tried.
The problem is - and we see this with the Hawks and Maginness - these guys don't necessarily play every week...so when you most need them, they might not be there ('cos they weren't selected). To go with a purely defensive midfield option as part of the 22 is not a leap I can see us taking...so why draft someone to play that role?

I totally agree that our ability to defend and lock-down both a player - even for 15 minutes - and more broadly a GAME is the biggest problem we seem to have had over the past few seasons. I'm just not sure drafting a player with the specific idea they might develop into a tagger is smart particularly whilst Bevo is coach.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

                      Fixed.

Mind you I'm just trying to understand where we're coming from, or what else might be happening. I don't love the idea of trading out from next years draft.

If we know Smith is out, it's palatable.

It would continue the trend of the club trying to get elite talent in. I favour this model in fairness, but at some point we do need to actually improve our depth.

Not reported, a rumour with some amount of merit (but still a rumor of course).

                            Duryea

                            Net TWO vacancies.

                            Rookie List Outs (4):

                            Scott (elevated)
Roarke (must be elevated or delisted)

                            Raak (Cat B) (delisted)

                            OOC:

                            Crozier
                            Bedendo
                            McLean

                            Comment:

So we are net two open spots. Croz, McLean & Bedendo would make five. That means we can only take in 5 draft picks for matching bids. Now if our first pick is 5, then we have four picks to match bids. Right now our picks 37, 66, 69 & 72 will end up blowing out such that the last two might not have any points anyway. Perhaps the 66 might almost become without many points either. So for us, those fourths look like bugger all. Once GCS start matching bids they might nudge back into points but won?t likely be vastly impressive. Maybe 150 points if they burn through their picks before our fourths.

So let?s say if we trade out 11 & 18 too, then our only pick with points is Pick 40 (37 pushed out by McKay, Gresham & Doedee compo). That is only 429 points. Let us say Croft comes and we need about 1,100 points. We are way short with Sweet unlikely to make a huge difference. Pick 40 will need to be sold for a couple of thirds to make up some points.

We might have to take in 5 vacancies to use pick 5, the two third rounders and potentially two more picks with points. If that?s the case then we need to move Bedendo, McLean & Croz having signed Khamis, Keath and likely Duryea.

We could manufacture an extra list spot to save one of the three OOC players by moving a rookie list spot to the main list. But then that impacts our TPP as standard rookie contract wages aren?t included in the cap. So realistically I?d say Croz, McLean & Bedendo will go.

From there, we have five vacancies and say use 3 picks at the ND. That leaves two spots open. Which I suspect means McNeil or Roarke might be potentially looking at elevation after the ND to fill our list. Or we could use a late pick to re-draft Bedendo if that?s was something we wanted to do.

Then there?s four open rookie list spots. Say one held over for the MSD. One an SSP/DFA. Then there?s two picks at the RD.

There?s a lot of moving parts. But pressing is how we come up with 670 draft points. That?s not factoring in Lual sliding and costing points either. In an ideal world, Port?s pick in the third round will be about Pick 50. If they swapped that for a fourth say around 75 that would be a great outcome if we can somehow convince them to that.

That could be 330 points. Say 150 maybe in draft when GCS start matching bids and say 150 for selling Pick 40. Would be nice to find some more but unless GCS are handing over a later pick this year as part of a deal for Pick 5 then I?m not sure there?s a lot of scope especially with future trading rules if our F1 is going.
With a couple of thirds from GCS, and say pick splitting Pick 40. That?s four picks with points plus Pick 5.

I?d say all of Bedendo, Croz & McLean are gone to let us take five picks with points in.

Maybe re-draft Bedendo if we wanted him still. But I?d say Croz & McLean are as good as done now.

Power said the Bulldogs were working through a trade with Port Adelaide for South Australian ruckman Jordon Sweet, with a number of routes to replacing the 25-year-old being considered.

He suggested the Dogs would be comfortable with Rory Lobb carrying the No.1 ruck duties should Tim English suffer an injury, while the 208cm Sam Darcy could also receive more opportunities in the ruck.

?We?ll assess it all over the next period. Whether that?s sort of the trade period, the draft or potentially post (draft) through the SSP.?.

Their pick 49 for our 73 would be fine by me. Sell the Pick 40 for two thirds. That would then give us 5 third rounders for Croft and maybe Lual. I think we just get this one done and move on.
