Re: 2024 List Management Thread
If it’s Bianco, I change my mind. We don’t need more Bakers, Poulters & Brambles. We need to try to rebuild as quick as possible so it has to be young talent. It’s a chance to bring in some kids basically as a free hit. We need to do this. If it’s getting another retread then I don’t know what the list manager is thinking.
As for positions. A mid or forward. If Libba & Smith moved on, another mid would be handy. A smaller forward would handy. If Buss or Tim are going, then even a KPD or Ruck. We might have a few needs, and likely do.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

2024 Mid-Season Draft: Clubs ?doing backflips? over players on offer... but one team holds the cards
The 2024 mid-season rookie draft is right around the corner, and the cream of this year?s crop is starting to rise to the top as teams seek an injection of talent at the campaign?s halfway point.
Success stories Marlion Pickett (2019), John Noble (2019), Jai Newcombe (2021), Sam Durham (2021), Massimo D?Ambrosio (2022) and Jye Menzie (2022), among others, were scooped up at the mid-year intakes of seasons past.
This year?s mid-season draft is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29 ? between Rounds 11 and 12 ? with a host of veiled talent set to put their hands up for long-awaited AFL opportunities.
While the picking order is still subject to change through the coming rounds, names are starting to separate themselves from the pack.
?The clubs (and their) recruiters are doing backflips about the level of talent ... there are some great stories,? started Herald Sun journalist Jay Clark on Fox Footy?s Midweek Tackle.
?Jack Hutchinson, the high-flyer from Collingwood (VFL), 190 centimetres, taking some great marks. He?s a talent.?
Hutchinson, a 22-year-old Wonthaggi product who plays a general forward role, is widely seen as the best available player of the 2024 crop, but the question is whether the current No.1 pick-holders view the VFL Magpie as a necessary commodity.
?Hutchinson, you speak to most recruiters, they say he?s the number one at this stage, but do North Melbourne need his type?? Clark asked.
?I think that?s a real conundrum, because they?ve got a couple of those types.?
Jaidyn Stephenson (189 centimetres), Eddie Ford (189), Cam Zurhaar (190), Zane Duursma (190) and Tyler Sellers (193) are all similar types to Hutchinson ? pushing the possibility that the skyscraper slips past the Roos? first selection.
Hutchinson, Will McLachlan (Geelong Falcons, forward-midfielder), Joe Pike (Geelong Falcons, ruckman), Jasper Scaife (West Perth, key forward), Jacob Blight (Peel Thunder, key defender) and Oskar Smart (Essendon VFL, small forward) are among the most sought-after names at this year?s intake.
McLachlan and Pike, both over-agers who returned to the Falcons this year, were a part of the Young Guns squad that played a pair of matches against Vic Metro and Vic Country in April, while Scaife and Blight were named in the 34-man WAFL State squad that will face South Australia on May 19.
?Those are the guys that are recruiters are talking about,? Clark continued. ?It?s interesting the way it?s all shaping up, because I think Hawthorn and Richmond are looking at big men ? they need key forwards and key defenders.?
The Hawks? key-position stocks were ravaged this pre-season, with James Blanck going down with a ruptured ACL and Denver Grainger-Barras (toe) still absent.
Meantime, the Tigers have an ACL victim of their own in defender Josh Gibcus, while they also lost spearhead forward Tom Lynch (hamstring) for a long period.
As things presently stand, North Melbourne will pick first, Richmond second, and then Hawthorn third.
13 clubs currently have the opportunity to make at least one selection, while the Lions (four open list spots), Crows (three), Tigers, (two), Roos (two) and Blues (two) have at least two vacancies.
Elsewhere, the 15th-placed West Coast Eagles may not get the chance to supplement their list.
?They haven?t got a pick,? Herald Sun journalist Jon Ralph said of the Eagles on the Midweek Tackle.
?We thought Noah Long was potentially out with an ACL ... (but) he?s come out with a PCL. The club is not sure how long he will be out for, so they don?t necessarily have a pick.
?There?s been talk around industry circles that Andrew Gaff might be nudged into retirement. Now, I?ve spoken to people close to him today, (and) there?s absolutely no way that?s going to happen.
?He hasn?t been asked it, and he actually would like to play on somewhere next year. Whether that?s likely to happen (or not), I?m not quite sure.
?I just think it?s interesting for West Coast. As we speak, unless they push Long onto the long-term injury list, they haven?t got a pick, and there are a couple of ex-AFL players playing good footy there.
?You never, never know unless you never, never go. Take some of these players ? I just re-ranked the 2021 mid-season draft, there (are) 15 good players in there ? take a couple of players.?
Herald Sun journalist Jay Clark detailed Brisbane?s situation following last Sunday?s QClash injury calamity.
?They are in a pickle,? he said on Tuesday night?s edition of Midweek Tackle.
?So, after the carnage at the weekend ? we saw Lincoln McCarthy and Darcy Gardiner go down with season-ending knee injuries, your heart breaks for them ? but it means the Brisbane recruiting department has got four picks in this mid-season draft.
?Fair to say they are in overdrive at the moment. They?re flying around the country watching all the tapes, trying to get across it all in a hurry. Now, whether they?ll fill all four spots remains to be seen.
?Adelaide has some work to do with three spots as well, but Brisbane will certainly be a very prominent story.?Comment

Re: 2024 List Management Thread
Now it all makes sense. We've got our eyes on a particular player and so have tanked the beginning of the season to bring this unicorn in, who will then help us make a late season run of 15 straight wins, direct to premiership glory.
I'm not sure why I ever doubted Bevo.Comment

Re: 2024 List Management Thread
TASMANIAN Geordie Payne and West Australian key defender Jacob Blight are among the prospects being scouted with early picks in the upcoming mid-season draft.
Vacant list spots have ballooned to 22 with Brisbane now having four open positions after the season-ending knee injuries to Darcy Gardiner and Lincoln McCarthy, however there is expected to be around half of those taken.
Payne was overlooked last year despite having interest from clubs, including Collingwood, but is back on the radar as a mid-season hopeful given his strong first half of this season as a quick defender with Tasmania and the Young Guns.
Blight is a 22-year-old key defender from Peel who has attracted interest from several clubs looking to bolster their backline stocks. VFL defender Mutaz El Nour, who has been overlooked at previous mid-season intakes, remains in contention for a mid-season spot, while key forwards Noah Howes and Jasper Scaife are considered strong possibilities.
A number of formerly listed AFL players are also putting themselves in the mix.
Trey Ruscoe, Liam McMahon and Trent Bianco (ex-Collingwood), Jack Peris, Dan McKenzie and Tom Highmore (ex-St Kilda), Lachie Young (ex-North Melbourne) and Jez McLennan (Gold Coast) are in the group looking for a return to the top level.
The mid-season rookie draft will be staged in three weeks on Wednesday, May 29. ? Callum TwomeyRocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

So I just saw this on YouTube, a stkilda supporter doing an analysis on our list , from an opposition supporter he is extremely good in his analogy of us. Something to have a think about. It is not having a go at the club but very balanced.
