Re: 2024 Draft Watch
Liam McMahon came second in the VFL goal kicking. Is he worth a look at?
He also won Carlton's VFL B&F. Arriving at the Blues VFL program in 2023 after two seasons at Collingwood, McMahon has cemented his spot in the side as a leader and target in attack.
The 198cm forward’s aerial ability is a focal point for the Blues’ attacking half game, with his flexibility to play down back also a great asset to the side.
I just saw the stats for VFL and I can't believe Billy Gowers won the goal kicking for 2024 !

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
Urquhart is another I really like. He’s got that great combination of endurance and pace that we seem to value lately, and has a long penetrating kick. Exactly the type I think is going underrated because of the focus on Vic talent this year. Would be happy with him at our 3rd pickComment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
Garcia I'd describe as an unconventional but okay kick. Urquhart is just sloppy. If he can clean up his ball drop, I think he's got the scope to improve there. I'm definitely keen on seeing us pick him up later, especially if we miss Hannaford.
No harm in getting both though - players who go at high intensity, have either pace or agility, and aren't afraid of contact will always be valuable, no matter how the game evolves. Clay Smith, Toby McLean, Liam Picken - these guys could have played senior footy at basically any time in the modern era.Last edited by Virgin-Dog; 17-10-2024, 06:12 PM.Comment

Hannaford won’t be playing early by looks of it. Still super keen thoughComment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
Thanks for sharing. Surprised Urquhart had the same 2km time trial as Moraes - I knew his endurance was good, but Moraes seems like a workhorse so to get the same time is pretty massive. His kicking must be a huge concern for him to not be rated higher

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
He was coming back from a knee injury, though his aerobic capacity was terrible, and this was well known his draft year. Took him until his 5th season (missed his 4th with an ACL) to really start to break outComment

From Code Sports regarding players they think are in the mix for us
With the trade period over, all eyes turn to November’s draft. Experts CHRIS CAVANAGH and DAN BATTEN run through the options for every clubs with the picks they have.
WESTERN BULLDOGS
Current Draft Picks: 17, 25, 35, 48
The Bulldogs gained picks 17 and 25 for losing two quality players in Bailey Smith and Caleb Daniel. However, Smith was sidelined for the entire 2024 season and Daniel fell out of favour – as did traded midfielder Jack Macrae – so their loss isn’t as significant as they look on paper. While pick 17 may become pick 21 by the time bids come in, there should be no shortage of options for their first choice – and at picks 25 and 35.
Forward-midfielder Taj Hotton faces a delayed start to 2025 after an ACL but is an exciting talent.
Xavier Lindsay would be a nice fit as a defender or inside or outside midfielder if he is still on the board, while half impact players Jesse Dattoli and Cooper Hynes should be around the mark at their first two selections.
Oakleigh Charger Tom Gross and Eastern Ranger Christian Moraes were both touted as top-10 picks at the start of the season and could both prove to be steals in the second round, while late-season bolter Ollie Hannaford has shown he can use his speed in a variety of roles, particularly as a dangerous small forward.
Or the Bulldogs could look to arguably the best pure small defender in the draft in Harry Oliver at 25, with fellow rebounders Lachie Jaques and Angus Clarke other options for their second or third pick.
List boss Sam Power said they are open to trading selections on draft night so don’t be surprised to see the Bulldogs get creative.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
I wonder if someone like Hamish Davis from WA could be in the mix for us? Given some of the phantom drafts perhaps not with our first selection.
Plays in the midfield and up forward and is very competitive with his marking.
