Try to catch some highlights and then tell me your thoughts haha. You know your footy, so i'd genuinely be curious to gauge your thoughts. His kick just seems to lack power. It's neat, but certainly not Bailey Dale style penetration from the footage i've seen. Anything over 40m seems uncontrolled.

I guess mjp has seen him live so that probably over rules highlights.

Nah - not always...Live is one game. Highlights usually a few.

I actually have watched the clips now...he's fine. I don't think he's a bad kick. He's not Bailey Dale but that's a pretty high bar. The kid kicks it well enough though!
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

In the past i was fine with it such as with Tim English as a first rounder, but now you tend to see a lot more rucks taken later who can end up just as good, they're generally late bloomers so i see it as a risk as such, Grundy another that was a first rounder, both Tim and Brody are AA ruckmen but are they the difference between getting to a GF or winning Premierships, i wouldn't have thought so.

I genuinely hate the idea of drafting a tall with our 1st, unless there's some absolutely insane slider like Tauru falling to our first (which won't happen). Gotta be a runner with our 1st

Also re: rucks, we did pretty well developing Sweet (a rookie pick) into a competent ruck in a prelim finalist.

And we've also drafted Lachie Smith late recently who is looking promising, though it's early days.

I can see merit in drafting a mature aged depth ruck late, but otherwise wouldn't be targeting any young rucks in this draft. If Crossley is even remotely fit enough (or at least close to it) then he'd be my preference. Otherwise, ironically, Tom Campbell could be worth bringing back for a year as a break-glass emergency if we get desperate. I'd like to avoid having to use Lobb and Darcy as full time rucks this year if English goes down

The lads at Craft of the Draft look at who the Dogs may select.

They nail our list gaps pretty much spot on. Only a 7-minute watch.

The gaps are pretty well known.
I like the Joe Berry suggestion and Taj Hotton but it's questionable if they will be available.
I also liked the Christian Moraes, Xavier Lindsay, Jack Ough, Oliver Hannaford, Harrison Oliver and Angus Clarke all have some merits for the 2nd and 3rd picks.

I'm not as keen on Jesse Dattoli as a back up if Berry and Hotton are gone.

I haven’t watched much of Dattoli, what’s the knock on him?

Not a real knock but I don't think he offers any real point of difference.

It's a shame The Doctor appears to be MIA. Really enjoyed his analysis and thoughts on the draftees.

I posted earlier in this thread my concerns around him:

Every time I watch him, I just see a relatively slow, lead and mark forward or a handball-happy midfielder with no point of difference. I?ve seen comparisons to players like Rachele, but I?m having a hard time seeing anything from him as a forward that we couldn?t have had from keeping Charlie Clarke. And I don?t see how he?s playing in the middle any time soon.

I even saw one source compare him to Toby Greene lol. I genuinely see more Fergus Greene as a forward.

Moraes is an interesting one imo. I see his floor and ceiling as having a pretty sizeable gap. On paper, he sounds great as an inside/outside mid and looks versatile enough that he could play pretty early. At the same time, I can't stop feeling like he could end up another Lochie O'Brien type who is drafted for his traits, but falls to pieces at the slightest hint of opposition attention, and doesn't have a defensive bone in his body.

I think Freijah was a "risky" draftee last year given the apparent gap between his ceiling and floor, and I'd be happy to take a chance with Moraes if he similarly slides into the 3rd round. Not sure how keen I am on him at our 2nd pick after watching more of him
