    7:57

Wow. That is serious slow for an elite athlete. I could beat that time without too much effort and I'm not even remotely close (on another planet in reality) to an elite athlete.

Just to put all the times into perspective.

Jessica Hull ran the world record for Women in Monaco this year for 2km. She ran 5:19. That is without the magic of testosterone too.

Some have certainly called into question Jess' improvement over the past 12-months...
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Is he a top 20 type player mjp?
I heard someone refer to him as a Lohmann type which I'm not sure how accurate that is but it's a good recommendation.

Don’t mind goal kickers. We need them. We should draft them.

If we can get a good midfielder with our first pick, that’s the way I’d go, but it seems we’re going to be into somewhat speculative territory so players who can run or kick goals seem the go.

I’m nowhere near the specific player available anymore so can’t really add much value here but will look forward to learning more over the coming weeks so I can opine on it.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Arguably, our best young midfielder was drafted as a rebound defender and our best rebound defender was drafted as a forward and our best KPF was drafted as a KPD.

Sometime you just need to pull the trigger on talent. Rozee at Port is a pretty dynamic mid but my champs viewing saw him playing mostly forward in his top aged year. Callum Mills is everything.

This is a write up from Code Sports. They had him as #32 but he should go before that.

A bumper second half of the season has seen Davis draw comparisons to dual Brownlow Medal winner Nat Fyfe. A goal-kicking half-forward who can also rotate through the midfield, he kicked three goals in an under-18 premiership for Claremont as a bottom-age player last year and continued to hit the scoreboard on a regular basis in 2024.
An endurance athlete, Davis works hard up the ground to provide a target on the lead and be a link-up player. When inside-50, he sets up teammates when he's not scoring himself. Davis had some good moments during the under-18 national championships with Western Australia, including a 15-disposal, 11-score involvement and three-goal game against Vic Country. But it was his performances while playing senior WAFL football at the tail end of the year which really stood out.
Davis racked up 21 disposals, seven score involvements and kicked four goals in Claremont's elimination final win over East Fremantle. After the Tigers were eliminated from the premiership race the following week, he went back to the club's under-18 side and gathered 30 disposals, eight clearances and 12 score involvements to win the best-on-ground medal in another Grand Final victory.
Davis put his endurance on display at the national draft combine in October, finishing fifth in the 2km time trial as he stopped the clock at 6min 18sec.

Absolutely. It’s a futures market and we need to project players with the attributes to develop into roles.

I suppose my overly simplistic point was there are not going to be rolled gold prospects in our range and if we can add players who can run and/or kick goals that should be our ticket. Ideally players with scope to play midfield (either right away or in the future).

Most of the best kids will have played midfield or forward at some level even if not for their rep sides / u18 clubs but through school footy or earlier years. I’m less worried about positions in these sides in our ranges. Just get the right AFL attributes / traits and back our development programs in.

She has had form for years now and had a big change in how she trained under her Dad. She documented it recently on the Inside Running Podcast. Only a few weeks ago. Worth a listen. Dropped the longer distances with a focus on speed and it looks like it really paid off. Worth a listen if you are interested.

You never know. But she comes across as genuine and is willing to talk to exactly what she changed to get better in extreme detail.

I love the aths and have listened to the pod already...I guess I was just pointing out that we (in Australia) tend to think all of 'our' athletes are squeaky clean...but the improvement shown by Jess had her being 'labelled' as suspect on track and field twitter!

Live and let live is my policy. She hasn't tested positive therefore she is clean. Not everyone feels the same way in the aths world (as I am sure you would agree).

Makes it a hard sport to love to be honest.

Well...he's got the ability to find space ahead of the footy which is not an easy skill to teach.

His back end of the year (post champs) was at a level I don't think ANYONE expected. The colts GF was a terrible game but Davis - his senior team got knocked out the week before - dropped back and played and won the BOG Medal.

He's a player that's for sure. Of the WA boys I think he's second only to Allen.

How does he kick his goals? Lead up marks and set shots? Contested marks? On the run, using his endurance to burn off opponents?

                            Yes. Agree.

On my long run yesterday, I listened to the Science of Sport podcast, where they broke down in detail the recent Women?s Marathon world record being annihilated.

It was a fascinating listen, but the main take out is that it is difficult to know what we are witnessing at the moment in running world. The shoe technology has defiantly also made things a little harder to decipher as it?s another variable we didn?t have 5+ years ago.

Worth a listen if you are interested.

It's a mixture of both but not so much contested marks. It's probably worth searching his name and having a look at some of the highlights.

I feel we lack a little in this area. It hampers our ability to get clean ball into our talls, and also get exposed on the intercept because players don't instinctively know when it's time to blast forward leaving us numbers short.
                                TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.
