Could we trade a F1 and try and secure a 2nd round? (something to balance it out coming back)

Then really late in the draft Hugh Boxshall and Blake Leidler if they are available
    Perhaps a ruckman?
I have liked the sound of Alger (small fwd) and Angus Clarke (smaller rebounding defender with good skills). How would you rank them vs Moraes?

I think picking Hynes means we can't get Davis and Moraes - need at least one pick to be for a different role/part of the ground.

Alger is right around the mark with Moreas. Really good prospect. Quick, Endurance, Good mark for his size, Footy IQ and good skills
He would be a good selection at either one of our picks tomorrow.

I don't quite rate Clarke that high. Perhaps if we had a pick in the mid 30's then he would be in the mix.

I really, really wanted Davis, and do think he's close to best available now, but not sure about taking him alongside Hynes. We desperately need foot speed and forward pressure, which we won't get from either.

Personally, I'd like Hayes with whatever our late pick ends up (in the 50s/60s).

With Pick 29/31, I'd be fielding offers to see if another club is desperate enough for Shanahan/Whitlock to pay up big.

Keep the pick, and this may be controversial and unlikely, but I think Malakai Champion is the best option from here. He's lightning quick, has strong goal sense and great pressure. Otherwise, I think Alger as a pacy, crafty small forward with at least average pressure is the way to go. Newton is another solid option for small forwards with pace and pressure (though probably a rookie pick at best).

I also like the options of Angus Clarke, Lachie Jacques, Sam Davidson.

Isaiah Winder might be worth another shot on the rookie list, has done extremely well at South Fremantle, and looks a completely different player from his time at West Coast

          Re: 2024 Draft Watch

So some of the players left make our possible selections very interesting.
Hopefully we moved up the order with some specific players in mind

          Perhaps a little left field
Could we go for a ruckman like Alex Dodson or an athletic key position player and part time ruck in Jack Whitlock?
Whitlock in particular could be a bargain selection.
Could a towering 198cm key defender like Noah Mraz be considered?
Then a contrast in players like small forward Jasper Alger and a midfielder who has been linked with us in Tom Gross.
Marking machine James Barrat, giant midfielder Jack Ough and smooth moving half backs in Lachie Jacques and Angus Clarke could be considered. I'd be very tempted to select Will Hayes

          More Strongly linked
Hugh Davis the impactful forward and midfielder
Christian Moreas the hard running midfielder and forward
I guess we have to also throw in Tom Gross, Hugh Boxshall and Blake Leidler

Hopefully we can get one of Hayes/Alger we need to add some speed to the mix. I still think Sam Davidson would be great off half back(yes I know he has played forward)from the clips I have seen really like his athletic profile and will be an AFL player.

              Good analysis, thanks for sharing
Newton might be an enticing pick.

Tough, strong, big frame v skinny quick long distant runner.

Both are needs but someone who can mix it and stand up in close quarters is our biggest need.

I like the profile of Cooper. Good decision with our first. Up to the kid now

Good call on 31. I think 31 might have a few suitors as there?s likely a decent KPP still there. I wonder if the Saints offer up 51 to swap 32 for 31 to block others from trying to get the pick off us. As opposed to thinking we take one of them.

They used a pick swap to keep from trading 51 to us for Jack so it could be seen as a free hit type of pick to trade if they rate the said KPP.

If we could use an F3 to get say 49 off the Lions (they have so bloody many later picks now the bids came so late) as well then that would round us out to 5 picks. These latter two picks in the range where we nailed Freijah last year. So Milesi you?d think would again back himself and his team to grab a couple of kids. And let us pick some kids for need.

So did Bowman test really well at the combine and that's why he rocketed up the table? RookieMe had him going pretty late in the draft and potentially even being a rookie pick but Twomey's final phantom had him at 30 and he eventually went at 26.

                      Bowman
                      Height 186.2
                      Vertical Jump 59cm
                      Right VJ 77cm
                      Left VJ 71cm
                      5mtr 1.09
                      10mtr 1.81
                      20mtr 3.00
                      Agility 8.27
                      2km 6.35

It has to be things like his upside and his marking. Decent combine results but nothing that special.

Also reportedly Essendon are trying to trade with us or Richmond for our first pick in the second round. If we can turn 29 and like our F3 into 37 & 39 with something else coming back our way then that would be a win as it'd give us another crack in the top 40. By the time you reach pick 30 then the players that you really want are usually only on one or two other teams boards anyways.

Yeah, these are solid results but not spectacular. His highlights look a lot like Bailey Dale when we recruited him (he's even built like Bailey Dale when we recruited him) but I'd have thought he'd be someone that would go at like pick 40 not pick 26.

                            So Essendon has
                            37, 39, 43, 60, 91, 97

                            We have
                            29, 31, 79, 86, 92

Would they give up 37 and 39 for 29? And does that work for us?
We traded with Brisbane to move up the order so would we now consider a slide back down?
Isn't 37 the pick we gave to Brisbane who then traded it to Essendon for more points?

I don’t understand that offer from Essendon. We traded up from 35 & 48. They think we’d then trade down to 37 & 39. That’s pretty much a nil all draw for us. They’d surely have to make it worth our while. I don’t see that apparent offer as a serious offer considering we could’ve not traded with Brisbane and had similar picks.

But I do like the rumours as hopefully others with closer picks to ours (ie 31 and Saints 32) and a good KPP on the board might still get us the player we want and a bonus later pick. I think Sam Power will be pretty popular today.

I think it might be more that we can leverage a F2 from them if they're desperate enough to jump up the draft order ahead of the Saints and Hawks. Shanahan is probably the highest rated tall forward left and Essendon are desperate for a tall forward.
