Re: Minister of Trades
Who knows if they need or want Everitt or Hill, but i keep hearing they may be after Minson, perhaps a deal to get a half decent pick for Hill, that pick plus Minson, would that work?Comment

Re: Minister of Trades
I can think of no reason why we would trade these two. They have been just outside our best 22 and the consensus is that they both have very big up sides. Akermanis, Johnson, and Eagle and Harbrow are gone (or as good as). Hall, Hudson, Hahn (if he doesn't go this year) and possibly a name player to GWS will be gone after next year. Everitt and Hill will be important members of our senior side. Let's get Wallis and Libba Jnr and a few roughies next year, then see what is the lie of the land. Free Agency is also just around the corner. It's become very obvious that Eade prefers players who have a certain amount of tenacity and intensity and that is one of the reasons why the laconic types like Hill and Everitt are struggling to command a regular spot despite their skill level and athletic abilities.
With that in mind, is it time to test the trade winds for these 2 guys and see what might be realistically available or do we stick with these guys and try and work out a way of them lifting their work rate? Personally I'd hate to see then languishing at Williamstown for most of next season.
With regards to trade options, I'm not talking about Everitt for say Jarred Brennan because that just won't happen but what sort of draft pick or player might Everitt and Hill be worth to other clubs?
I wouldn't mind us having a crack at landing the out of favour Andrew Walker from the Blues because despite his kicking skills not being that flash he is probably a better run with and shut down option than Cross or Boyd who haven't really stuck to their tasks in that regard this season.
I could see us using Walker and Picken as the defensive stoppers plus Walker can play on some taller opponents as well. That being said, we would have to be convinced that he was over the worst of his injuries. Another consideration is if getting a player like him would just take a spot that Sam Reid might otherwise be a contender for.
Are there any other players that are rumored to be looking to make a move that we could use and realistically might have a chance of getting? The Angels have the phone box. Don't blink!Comment

Re: Minister of Trades
Gold Coast seems to be stacked for defenders so unless Clayton still holds Everitt in the highest regards, I don't think they would offer up that much for him.
Saints won't be as keen this year as we have devalued Everitts worth this season.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

To be fair, Dre has to take responsibility for that. Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

Re: Minister of Trades
But the only issue with that is that there has been plenty of opportunities to play them more regularly this year and the coach wants guys showing more intensity that than they have been.I can think of no reason why we would trade these two. I don't disagree with your assessment that they have an upside but if we fast forward 12 months and they have only played half the season then their market value won't be much at all.
To me losing the guys you have nominated plus not really having Hill and Everitt in the selection mix actually weakens the list. They are too talented to be stuck on the list if they aren't really in the mix.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: Minister of Trades
No doubt, but I think he isn't as valuable as he was 12 months ago and yet we resigned him with the same question marks about his intensity and where he actually fitted in to the side. The answer to those questions haven't been made clearer 12 months on.
Whilst it sits squarely on Everitt, the club has to also share 'some' of the responsibility for keeping him on and extending his contract.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Well maybe the club thought he is only 20 going on to 21 years old and he may start to mature a bit. At the end of the day its what is between the ears and that can change as you get older. No doubt, but I think he isn't as valuable as he was 12 months ago and yet we resigned him with the same question marks about his intensity and where he actually fitted in to the side. Re: Minister of Trades
I didn't think you would like the that I phrased it but the fact is that we did have question marks on his best position for us and if his intensity was suited to the team 12 months ago and he appears to be still a long way from convincing the club that he is a required player.
If we aren't going to play him regularly do we trade him or just persist?Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Its a hard one, as he so young yet he is tall. Your right the club still don't know what his best position is and he hasn't helped at all.I didn't think you would like the that I phrased it but the fact is that we did have question marks on his best position for us and if his intensity was suited to the team 12 months ago and he appears to be still a long way from convincing the club that he is a required player.

If we are to keep him, he needs to be playing in the best 22 or its just a waste.FFC: Established 1883

Re: Minister of Trades
Given we didn't make a lot of delistings 12 months back and now it looks like we will be forced to do a number of them, I don't think the club can punt on if players like Hill and Everitt actually fit into the selections mix or not.
If the jury is still out, I think we have to make the hard call.
One thing we probably can agree on is that the coach isn't going to change his view unless there is a shift in application from the two of them. He would need to be convinced that there will be a change.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: Minister of Trades
I think we need to cut HARD into the list next year.
Aker, Johnno and Eagle (I think) have all announced that this is it.
Hahn should.
Trade Dre and Hill. They dont fit into the coaches plan and are talented enough to be worth something.
Delist Callan, Stack, Tiller.
Move Mulligan back to the rookie list or delist.
Delist Thorne.
Move Markovic back to the rookie list or delist.
Elevate Moles and Hooper.
We need to get two (or three) of GVGjr's rough diamonds - I like the Walker idea.
I would target Lockwood from Williamstown - hard at it, uncompromising...desperate to make it. From there I would try and add a midfielder with leg-speed (Krakouer or Mzungu spring to mind) and key back with leg speed from the state leagues...if we still want a small forward I would take a chance on Jarrod Ninyette from Claremont as a rookie and cross-my-fingers. He is one who might just explode if thrown into the AFL system. What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment

Re: Minister of Trades
If we are so active with retirements & delisted players, i probably wouldn't mind holding onto Stack, give him another year, and if we go for Peter Faulks, probably lose Tiller, but if we don't get Faulks, might be tempted to hold onto Tiller as well as back up, especially if Markovic is gone.I think we need to cut HARD into the list next year.

Re: Minister of Trades
That's a massive changeover in a compromised (and for us a committed) draft so I'm tempted to stick with Stack and see if we can re-invent him as a running BP.I think we need to cut HARD into the list next year.

Krakouer is someone we should target and there is a few state league footballers that can provide some additional short term depth.
I have been impressed with Lockwood this season and he has been a good contributor for Williamstown.
Obviously a lot of clubs haven't finalised their lists yet and I hope we can identify a couple of guys that can come in and do a role for us if we are to move Hill and Everitt on.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: Minister of Trades
I know.
I don't normally like making such big changes, but to me it is now or never...next years draft is compromised as well and there are players on our list who to me are not improving. After a couple of years, if your spot is still not assured at VFL level it really is time to move on (developing talls aside). Stack is a marginal state level player. I would bet that the Williamstown match committee are reluctant to play him, let alone the Dogs. A back pocket player who wont bodyline the ball? No thanks. What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment
