Re: Minister of Trades
I would be keeping both Hill and Everitt, I could imagine them moving on and it coming back to bite us. Guys with that sort of talent should be persisted with and spots will be opening up next year. I dont like how Dre in particular has been handled, he's marked just about as hard as anyone on the list while more experienced guys are given a free ride in the 22. I tend to agree with Sockeye, trading is incredibly hard to get right even in the best of cirumstances.
MJP I'm not so keen in putting that amount of faith in state league players, Barlow has been a success but you could just as easily end up with three or four, 21-24 year olds who are unable to make the next step and just clog up the development of guys coming straight through from junior footy.Comment

Re: Minister of Trades
In my opinion it could be a lose, lose situation but so would it be if they aren't in the plans.
We have to be bold and if it bites us then so be it.
For how long though? We had injuries aplenty this year and in Everitts case he would come in for a game but never looked like holding his spot.
We shouldn't shirk it just because it's a hard science. Swans do it well but we haven't.
A number of state league players made the transition this year not just Barlow so once again, if there is a player or two that can fill a spot for us why not consider it?MJP I'm not so keen in putting that amount of faith in state league players, Barlow has been a success but you could just as easily end up with three or four, 21-24 year olds who are unable to make the next step and just clog up the development of guys coming straight through from junior footy.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

I noticed Lockwood yesterday, especially one piece of play with repeat efforts despite being hurt - uses the ball well, looks to me (albeit on limited vision) an AFL ready player.Float Along - Fill Your LungsComment

No. I just want it too.
Hooper and Moles still need to be permanently elevated. They will revert to their rookie contract at years end. What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment

If Stack was a Williamstown listed player would we be looking at him? I do not think so. Rookie list at best for me but he might have another year on his contract.Comment

Re: Minister of Trades
I think a lot of Bulldogs supporters take this viewpoint with Everitt and Hill. Many are fearful that if we let them go they will actually realise their potential and make us look silly, despite many supporters not actually thinking they'll reach their potential with us.
I think that if we feel we can't get the best out of them and that they won't be best 22 players for us we should look to move them on, talented as they may be. Farren Ray is a good example of a talented player performing well at another club, and through that trade we have also benefited with the recruitment of Jones/Roughead.
Just on a more general note, when people refer to draft picks they often classify them in rounds ie. "Everitt is worth a 2nd round pick". Now is this 2nd round pick a 2010 2nd round pick (ie. 30-56), or is it a regular 2nd round pick (18-32)? I think it's going to be hard to classify what players are worht this year as clubs may be more willing to trade 1st and 2nd round picks due to them being of a considerably less value.I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment

Re: Minister of Trades
Not only has Barlow been a success so has Boyd, Mitchell, Morris, Silvagni and many many more. In footy we constantly harp on about bigs take time to develop well in some instances so do smalls.MJP I'm not so keen in putting that amount of faith in state league players, Barlow has been a success but you could just as easily end up with three or four, 21-24 year olds who are unable to make the next step and just clog up the development of guys coming straight through from junior footy.Comment

IF you look directly above your post Topdog a sig sums that post up nicely.

Re: Minister of Trades
Begs the question - we kept him last year because of the "upside" and he is arguably worth less now. If we can get a decent trade for him, it would be one of those situations that are a win/win for both player and club.
I think Hill would be playing at WCE if he was there - McKinley seems on the outer due to a lack of defensive workrate and at times Hill has shown an ability to chase. The trick will be getting him to do it all the time.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

No they would not, but they make rate a ruckman of ours.
We will have to add a pick in there. I just hope Jacobs does not go to the Crows.
