Ultimately not, but wasnt he accused of being unfit/whatever for his first couple of years? Had he got stuck into an AFL training regimin a year earlier he probably would have 'come good' a year earlier.

Taking a longer term view, Dangerfield was a draft "win" anyway you look at it.
If we kept our picks, I'd be over the moon to get someone like that with one of them - even if he takes a few years to develop.

I wouldnt worry too much about waiting a year until Martin could play. Chances are, unless we get Toumpas or another kid who is already playing against men, any skinny first year kid is going to spend most of his time in the seconds anyway. Certainly not going to be the difference between us challenging for the flag next year As long as we can convince him to actually come over and train with us and play for the seconds rather than staying home in WA for the whole year.

Still hoping for a Toumpas / Martin double draft this year. Somebody up there make it happen, we deserve it!
Ok - maybe it's the fact he is aboriginal and I'm concerned about the interstate/cultural challenges. MJP clearly knows the system over there so happy days if we think he's worth it. I'd be pretty happy to take best two at 5 and 6 in this years draft still as the early picks are all pretty damn good.
Both of these players are yet to show that are quality midfielders.

As per mjp's post is drafting a WA boy a concern?

Is this draft a superdraft? Who says it is?

Trade one of which 2? - Wallis or Dahlhaus? You serious?
Never suggested trading either? Not sure how you read that into it. I want more of their type - not into giving them away

Actually, that's how I read your post the first time as well, you did say:

Can we just get some more quality midfielder in the mould of Wallis and Dahlhaus? Keep it simple - lets not muck around. Alternately I'm happy to trade one of those for a mini draft slot but that's about it

yeah I read it that way at first too. Then I read it as only give away 1 of picks 5/6 for the superdraft, not one of those picks + x

Right, yep, hmmm, my bad, re-read it - sorry folks. No I don't want to trade either, yes I'm happy to trade one pick for the WA kid as well....

It did, I knew you'd love it and to be fair he's only just played 202 games

I'm learning to let it go, but that was wrong on two levels. Danny Frawley wrong.

I'm more than happy to spend one of our first rounders and a later round pick if that get's this done. We need elite talent on our list and Martin from all reports is that and it would seem he is a level headed kid. We aren't going to be good for a while, we can wait a year for him to play. The upside of him being in our system for a year would hopefully help him have a greater impact once he's able to play in 2014. Really hoping the club can find a way to get it done.

Knowing nothing about the lad, why are we assuming it'll only take one year for him to play? If we waited and drafted him next year, there's no guarantee he'll slot right in, right? Or am I missing something? Is his body up to slotting into the 2014 list?

He won't be available to draft next year, someone will take him with one of the minidraft picks this year.

Jay Clark from the Herald Sun is reporting that Gold Coast are now in the box seat to land Martin, and Melbourne to land Hogan, which will give GWS the first 3 picks in the draft.

After reading it a few times I came to the conclusion that Jay was guessing to make the story sound good (GWS get top 3 picks)
