Are we all assuming Hogan is clearly ahead of Kelly for MD2?
I asked asked about Kelly, do you rate him above either Martin or Hogan?
More of an In Bruges guy?

One of them is going to miss out and will have to wait till the next draft to be picked. Kelly is still highly rated but I believe third out of Martin and Hogan.

Whilst Kelly performed brilliantly in the 3k time trial his sprinting over the three short distances was poor to say the least. He's a very good footballer but I wonder if he went as hard as he could in the three sprints because to top it off his effort in the repeat sprints was right up there.

Would very much like your view on Hogan vs Kelly MJP.

Also, any views on what the perfect outcome for us would be - what can we do with #5 and #6?

As you can see - few if any of us can sensibly and objectively rank the players against each other.

Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft

Whilst I think it would be a ballsy move to aim to secure MD1 & MD2 it's the sort of vision that I think the club should be congratulated for if able to pull it off.
It would clearly represent a long term picture view being taken over the immediate future, but I love the intent for a number of reasons.
Firstly I think it's fair to say our expectations for next year are that we are not going to be challenging for the 8 let alone a flag, so with that in mind, why not try and secure highly rated talent with our pick's 5 and 6, even if it means they're essentially on ice for 12 months? if we are confident that both players we would select in the MD would be rated there abouts or even higher should they have otherwise have gone through to next years draft, then it's almost a no brainer for us to try and orchestrate it.

If we assume that Martin would be the MD1 pick, and if Hogan is our preferred MD2 pick over Kelly, then it also has the added bonus, of putting some real competitive pressure on our current tall forwards to put their best foot forward next year.

With Hogan cooling his jets on our list for a year to develop I can only see that prospect as being a great motivator for Jones, Grant and Cordy for season 2013.

The thought of also being able to also secure Anderson in this deal, seems on face value almost to good to be true. If it were to transpire along with MD1 & MD2, it would be an amazing coup by our recruiting department, showing tremendous vision and nous.

If MD1 is worth around pick 5 or 6 this year, and MD2 is worth a late top 10 (say pick 9 or 10 this year) and Anderson is a late first round pick (say around pick 18)....then the above deal is roughly equivalent to GWS trading pick 18 (Anderson) for a 4 pick upgrade from 10 to 6. Given they may only want to use 3 picks this year they may go for it.
If we need to use both picks 5 & 6 to get MD1 & MD2, just to make sure we don't get outbid on MD1 (Martin). There's no reason we can't trade on MD2 if we don't rate Hogan.

Plenty of people do and Melbourne might even give up pick 4 for him. we might get pick 7, 8 or 9 for him.

I think we need to sell our picks as a block to have maximum leverage.

agree with DD. Try and buy them both. Think at worst we'd be able to on trade him for pick 10 or so.

Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft

Some of the rumors floating around about us seem to support us going for Martin and Anderson plus a second round pick for picks #5 and #6. There are so many stories that we can't take anything as gospel other than we are very, very keen on Martin and have been also linked to Anderson.

I'm starting to lose sleep over this. REALLY.
I hope we don't try and get too clever or greedy and lose Martin.
if we only get two players for 5 & 6, not the three players, or 2 players plus draft pick.
                      Then so be it.

From a guy who is involved in the sports agency industry but not AFL - claims the mail in the AFL side of the industry is Martin, Anderson and a second rounder for 5 and 6.

It sounds realistic but it would be a shame to not have a first round pick. There is probably no other way around it though.

I'd be surprised if we commited to anything with GWS right away - as the trade period gets underway the intentions of clubs with relevant picks may become more transparent and may help us fine tune our bid (ie. Gold Coast with #2; Melbourne with #3 and #4; Geelong with their yet to be activated Ablett Compensation pick.)

Might be a lot of water to flow under the bridge yet.

According to this: Collingwood are after Pick 4 in exchange for Dawes and Wellingham so they can use to pick up Hogan in the Mini Draft. Melbourne want to find out if they have to use pick 3 on Viney before agreeing, however, Wellingham wants to go to West Coast.

Given Wells' draft success, surely there have to be others who rate Hogan at no 3.
