Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft
Still think we are in a good position with the draft you would have to be super negative not to think so. Even though we miss out on the MD we have two early picks that will net us two highly qualified players that can play next year. What is not to like about that."Look at me mate. Look at me. Yes I know what you mean. Unfortunately the teams with picks before us colluded together. Nothing in the world we could have done. Who would you like us to get in the draft if available Sedat?Comment

It's like complaining we should have drafted Cotchin instead of Grant despite him being selected by a club 3 picks ahead of us.Western Bulldogs: We exist to win premiershipsComment

Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft
I don't watch the junior competitions so I'll bow to the better judges on woof. I just want some elite talent to come to the club - tall or small. We have sufficient holes on our list in many areas that need addressing so 'best available' is the order of the day for these picks."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft
I think the point is that perhaps we could of kept our hand closer to our chest until we had to play it. Rather that tell the world our intentions.
The AFL certainly stuffed up when thinking up this Mini draft. The idea was for clubs like GWS to get mature players onto their list, but instead they went for high picks, and the GC ended up getting the best 17 year old two years in a row.Comment

Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft
How has that made any difference? GC have given up pick 2 to get him and he can't even play next year, they have effectively drafted him as a pick #1, other than sell the farm to get in earlier there's nothing we can do about it.

It's done now - hopefully we can turn those picks into some future gold."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft
I agree to an extent but it's been pointed out that GC said a few months ago they would take Martin. I think what's happened is that inside the confines of the cone we convinced ourselves that we would get Martin by some extroidinary sleight of hand but in reality it was never going to happen.

Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft
It is impossible to quantify the impact of our public intentions because we were never quiet about them. But equally nobody can categorically say that our public stance had no impact. For starters, the entire competition (including GC, Melbourne and GWS) knew precisely what hand we were willing to play with for MD1 so it was quite a simple exercise to ascertain a higher value for the pick.

Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft
I think we played our cards far too early in this mini draft saga.
All GC had to do was throw down their wild card at the last minute, we had already gone all in days ago.
Pretty amateurish from the dogs i must say.
GC played us and beautifully, pretending they were interested in Viney.
Perhaps Melbourne knew better with this Viney rouge, and knew they wanted Martin all along.
Melbourne and GC simply had better picks than us.
On top of that they did a deal behind closed doors.
What could we have possibly done?Comment

Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft
There is suggestion that Melbourne may give up pick 3 for Hogan..
If we are required to give up 5 & 6. Would people be happy with Hogan / Pick 9? (From richmond in relation to Tyson)
Would Hogan be worth pick 5 straigth swap?Comment

Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft
If Melbourne gives up pick 3 for Hogan and GC pick 2 for Martin effectively our picks 5 & 6 become picks 3 & 4 in the draft. A great position to be in.Comment
