      Very good

Having said that, his older brother Craig Pitt (about 20 years old) has been on fire as an attacking half back flanker the last month, destroyed Graham Johncock yesterday. Must be a silly chance to be a mature age recruit. There's plenty of blokes on AFL lists that arent as good as Craig Pitt.

Jake's still a work in progress, good height needs to beef up yet.

Just reading all of the comments on 20m times etc (whilst watching the game!) and I would ask one really simple question.

Of all of the physical tests, which one has the greatest correlation with successful AFL careers?

Most clubs look at one number and one number only and use it as a comparative selection tool. In other words, we cannot split these two but this one has a better result in 'x' and therefore we should take them. There are two studies I know of now looking at trying to correlate draft camp results and games played so we might have a better idea in 12-24 months on what tests actually matter.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

I assume that number is club dependent?

While it depends on the type of player (Midfielder or KPP) the two I like to look at are the agility test and the repeat sprints. From memory Macrae tested poorly on the repeat sprints which shows that I might be looking at the wrong thing

I don't know. Most clubs I have spoken too only look at 20m time or vertical jump - truest test of athletic potential. Beyond that they are more interested in bad numbers than in good ones if that makes sense. I would still like to know if there is any correlation though...am sure clubs have looked at the data but no info I have been able to find.

Surely it completely varies based on a players position.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Great insight mjp, thanks for sharing. Would be very interested to know the outcome of those studies you referred to above upon their completion.

I think there is some merit in those 2 stats being the most critical as you'd like to think things like endurance can be improved over time in an AFL environment, improving raw speed, particularly off the mark, is not as easy and it's the same with the vertical leap. As you say, both are great indicators for athletic potential so the approach makes a lot of sense to me.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

                            Herald Sun

ANY doubt over whether recruiters are seriously looking at Dayle Garlett just eight months after he was overlooked by all 18 clubs has been washed away with the gun West Australian invited to draft camp.

After winning the trust of WAFL club Swan Districts back earlier this year, Garlett has lit up the state league with 37 goals from 14 senior games while averaging 17 disposals.

The mercurial talent was shunned in 2012 after a season wrecked by off-field indiscretions.

SuperFooty revealed in April that Garlett was back on the draft radar.

He was axed from the AIS-AFL Academy before photos of him drinking and smoking emerged on social media to further damage his reputation.

After missing out at the national draft, Essendon invited Garlett to train at Windy Hill on the premise it would consider handing him a lifeline should he show the necessary commitment.

But the Dons overlooked Garlett after he went on a 4am bender in Perth only three days before the pre-season draft.

Garlett, who is again rated in the top 10 players on talent alone, then knocked back invitations to join the VFL, instead opting to stay at WAFL club Swan Districts this year.

A total of 98 players have been invited to the national draft combine after earning nominations from a handful of AFL clubs.

Nathan Gordon from North Adelaide is an interesting one. Is a mature age, ex Swan. Is ruckman height, and has been playing up forward and on the ball for North, has been a stand out in teh SANFL. Has kicked a few bags.

Clubs having nother look at mature-ager Nathan Gordon ex-Sydney Swans.

Only 3 players invited from the VFL. Ben Brown doesn't strike me as having the work rate or attitude (some interesting comments posted on Facebook after a match earlier this year in the Foxtel Cup) to make it at AFL level. Weird kicking style also.
