That was my issue with it too.

I found it was a problem in Derek, I didn't see the character Derek I just saw Ricky Gervais acting, and now in afterlife it's literally just Ricky Gervais saying all the stuff he says in his standup shows (which are heavily opinionated) but super thinly veiled as his characters opinions. This coupled with basically everyone else in the show feeling like characters instead of real people meant it felt kind of shallow imo, not in subject matter but more as a world and show.

I did think it was a decent show, and can definitely see the appeal, but it just doesn't quite do it for me.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Re: What are you watching at the moment

Started watching Halt and Catch Fire a month or so ago and up to season 3.

It’s set in the early 1980’s and is set around the innovation of the personal computer. Sounds pretty bland but focuses on initially 3 three key players and how they try to take on the big players like IBM in coming up with the latest and greatest in personal computers and it evolves from there.

Good story line, good characters and surprisingly addictive in its own way.

        I think that's a given with anything he's in.

But I'm an emotional cripple so I'm a sucker for these type of shows.

Mr Inbetween is pretty good. Very Aussie.

I liked After Life but I didn't think it should have had a second season, he had already made all the points he wanted to make and it had wrapped up neatly. The second series felt repetitive and redundant.

I agree with you ML. First one was ok, but second one I didn't really laugh much.

Yeah the second season also went a bit far with the shock comedy as well.....which if you're in the mood for is OK, but also came across as a bit forced.

I was pretty late onto Rick and Morty, but I really love it. Completely up to date now, such a good escape for a few minutes in the day.

Save your applause, I've decided to finally commit to watching The Wire.

Man, where do I start in terms of how dated it is, how much it takes me back to a time, how relevant it is to today's television and how ground breaking it is?

It started in 2002, so conceptually it's probably a couple of years before that in its true setting. Everything is so old, same sex relationships are cutting edge but respectfully portrayed, and fat faced cops are familiar faces from yesteryear but you just can't put your finger on where you've seen them before.

I'm up to episode nine of season one and it's been a really surreal experience in watching it because the way it's been built up here and elsewhere I've been looking for something less gritty and a bit faster. You know, like this:

I kid, I kid......I'm really enjoying the slow burn and the character development and I can actually see that the hard yards are being put in early to set up the layers for later.

And I thought I was the last one to the Wire party......10 years ago!
I loved the slow burn....Season 2 was hard to get through though. But push through regardless as it really hits its stride from Season 3 on.

Last night finished the final episode. I had watched it back when it first came out, but at the time my wife just couldn't get into it and didn't watch it.

I convinced her a few weeks ago to have another go and after getting past the first episode with subtitles on, we both enjoyed it again.

Agree season two was probably the weakest, and as Jeemak says, some of the stuff is outdated, like the technology etc, but still one of the best Police shows ever done.
