Unsure but i think a soccer team did play a season or two there 20 years ago.

And what about the Melbourne Monarchs baseball team that the club bought in the early 90's? First season we won the national comp but sadly they didn't last.

Apart from Collingwood, clubs have been reluctant to take on other sporting teams.

No,funnily enough they played in Preston!

It was a wild place. I remember one day when things were going tits up on the field I said to one of my mates "should we go home?" and he said "no way, these people are capable of anything and I am hanging around to see what happens"

We would be getting driven home and my mate's dad (while driving) would get the passenger to steer the car while he turned around and asked us "how well Douggie Brown had played!"

I reckon Dougie played at South Melbourne
Might have had a stint at Preston
He’d do nothing for 90 minutes get bagged unmercifully for that time then score in the last minute with Greeks declaring their undeniable love for him

Dougie was the captain coach at Preston in the early '80s.

Brunswick Juventus played a few games there in the early 90s but got very low crowds.

My uncle Ivan? He was mayor of Preston. I think they named a park after him out that way. It's called the 'Ivan P Dole reserve' or something.

Mum told me that when they swore him in the whole family traipses out from Footscray to Preston to watch amd when the time came to invest him with his robes my nanna was so excited that she turned to my mum and said "that's my son you know" Mum just looked at her and said "Yep, I know"

Is it the I.W. Dole Reserve Dole Avenue, Reservoir. Yeah I lived in Preston after I was born.

That's it. Uncle Ivan was the one who realed me in as a bulldog supporter with his stories about the players from the old days like Binga Maclaren and Norm Ware. Him and uncle Ray taught me how to box and fight too.

There you go Easty, a link to uncle Ivan's page on the Darebin site. Uncle Ivan was the man who pushed through the Northland shopping centre through-I didn't know that.
