That’s cool. My Dads folks (Greek-Macedonian) lived in Thornbury. A few woofers live around there I believe. My Mums father worked in Footscray briefly at the CBA. He was there helping the migrants. He had a lot of great stories my grandfather arrived in Aus I believe NY Eve 1954 from Greece.

Unc divides his time between Sunbury and the Gold Coast these days.

Uncle Ivan had four boys and they all loved a fight. Mum said that when he got home from the footy on a Saturday he would sit next to the phone waiting for the call to come down to the cop shop and pick them up because they had been dragged out of some pub where they had taken the locals on.

One day I was at the footy standing at the Geelong road end and I got into a big argument with a Essendon supporter. He was about to hit me and I knew that I was in trouble because I didn't have enough time to defend myself or evade what was coming. I was just going to have to wear what was coming so I braced myself for the contact but it never came.

After a bit I opened one eye and my cousin Bear (I don't know his real name but he looks like a big grizzly bear. In fact I don't think anyone has ever told me his real name and I would be surprised if he knew what it was himself) was standing there holding this bloke by the scruff of the neck about 3 foot off the ground. He said "nobody hits my cousin" and threw him over his left shoulder. The bloke did half a dozen barrel rolls then stood up and took off without looking over his shoulder.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

My grandfather worked in both suburbs of Footscray and Collingwood at the CBA. All the decades later I support the Dogs and my brother the Pies. Both of us face off Round 1.

I didn't know you were part Macedonian Easty. So your granddad missed the premiership by a few months? What is your mum's ethnic background?

My background is all over the shop. My great grandma was Jamaican and the rest came from Germany and the borderland of Italy and Denmark and some from the UK. Add to that the Polish/Russian/Ukrainian blood my kids have from their mum and my family are really a Heinz soup (57 varieties) family.

Both my grandparents from my Mum and Dad side were born in the Macedonian region of Greece in a town called Florina both from different villages within that town. So I’m Australian with Macedonian (Greek) background.

Western United 3-4 Adelaide United. Not really an A-League follower did any woofers go the game?

Both clubs happy with the surface and the crowd atmosphere but I have no idea of the crowd numbers.

Good shot there from the John Gent Stand facing east towards the city.

Not sure of the actual crowd figure.

I went, my third ever A league game.

Was an entertaining match, high scoring with plenty of shots on goal. Just great to be back at WO for a competitive anything, really.

If they hold more A league games at WO I'll go, certainly wouldn't travel to Geelong to watch a game. If WU survive (and there are doubts) and they manage to build the stadium at Tarneit I might be tempted to go occasionally.

Victory are having a stinker of a season but somehow go to Japan and beat a powerhouse Kashima side in an Asian Champions League playoff. It's Victory's first ever win away in Asia.
