If it was me I'd done with the AFL forever. If the Dogs ever go I'll go.

I'm not saying that masses of Bombers fans will switch, but there will be a few. A lot of Bombers fans have been so thoroughly disgusted by the years of lies and institutional corruption that their support for the club has been steadily eroded to nothing, a number have switched clubs (probably only 1 or 2 percent, but that adds up to quite a bit). Given our geographic proximity, we would appeal to a few of those.

My wife converted to the Bulldogs last season, such was her disgust for Essendon and Hird. She is massively anti-doping given she was a keen cycling fan only to have her passion for it destroyed by doping revelations.

On a side note. Despite cancelling her Essendon membership and joining the Bulldogs, Essendon sent her a letter late in the season (along with every other non-renewing member no doubt) that said it would be sad to see you break 20 years of continuous membership and they know the last 3 years have been tough, so here's a free 3 game membership and we've counted you on our membership tally this season. Sure enough she even got a membership pack and an end of season thank you letter for her support in 2015

Of course people like Slobbo will ignore this when criticizing "the haters" with their doom and gloom predictions for Essendon's mass exit of members, and point to their membership as being "steady".

Wow, that's sneaky. So technically they can say they haven't lost any members at all! With that system, their membership numbers might be completely hollow and no one would know...

Jeez, the impulse for deceit does run deep.

Their numbers are completely hollow, as are pretty much all the big Victorian clubs. Between corporate give aways, charity donations, and people buying ten 3 games memberships instead of buying an extra 11 game membership the actual number is probably half of what's reported. Collingwood gave Westpac 10,000 3 game memberships alone as part of their training facility naming sponsorship. The problem is the AFL loves quoting these numbers and uses it as the basis for justifying their rigged fixture.

Essendon just took it a step further, like they do most things deceit related.

At the end of the day, attendance at matches will be the telling factor.

Nor do I but I know a few former Swans supporters who now follow other clubs rather than follow Sydney.
Some families are split between Essendon and ours and could easily say stuff it I will follow the Dogs and go to the footy with my partner.

Also parents of footballers can easily fall in love with a club they used to hate. I worked with a Collingwood supporter who hated the Saints but rarely saw the Magpies play once his some arrived at the Saints. He even grew to like Grant Thomas

Granted it's not the norm but it can happen.

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

Just been thinking about the (likely) scenario that all, or most, of the 12 banned Essendon players choose not to return to the club in 2017. Presumably all or most of it's spare parts top up players will be released also.

Does that mean that Essendon go crazy during the trade period or just get a ridiculous amount of draft picks? Either way it will make the 2016 trade/draft period quite a circus.

And if they finish bottom they get the number one draft pick

And ask for a priority pick or two.

No doubt the AFL will give them the first 5 picks.

I know one Fitzroy follower who got right on board the Brisbane Lions - there were some Fitzroy players and (this really came to the fore with their 3peat) he was out for revenge on all the remaining Victorian Clubs whom he saw as being complicit in his team's axing. In short, he loves watching Brisbane beat the traitorous Victorian teams.

I know another who switched to everyone's second team - us!

And I know 2 who switched to...the Bombers!!! Friends determined it.

Presumably the banned players can opt to walk and become DFA's.

The AFL needs a strong Essendon according to McLachlan after all

I don't mind Grant Thomas and his views on football are usually spot on. Problem is he s usually running an agenda so you have to seperate that from what he says to get at the salient bits.

Normally I wouldn't bother but Thomas can be devestangly accurate about our short comings. He's not the sort of bloke I want to see involved at our club though.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
