I don't get the backdating argument. Its OK to backdate if the players actually missed games, but they didn't aside form some meaningless pre-season games.

It's become a meaningless political exercise if that's the sentence. Everybody gets their piece of cake to take away but justice isn't served and the truth is never faced. It's pretty much what I've been expecting tough.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Everything is alright now. Black and red minions are being dispatched across the country to humbly hand deliver letters to their members, personally signed by Jobe Watson. I'm flipping through my Guiness Book of records under 'B' but that has to be the biggest act of brown-nosing by a sporting club in Australian history, don't your reckon Duck? Wouldn't you say?

Surely WADA's case will fall over if Dank, Hird, and Robinson have deleted the incriminating text messages or replaced their phones during the investigation. The AFL assures us that there's no way to investigate what was communicated in the event of this happening, just look at their findings from the Talia investigation.

They must be so determined to help WADA/ASADA that they retained the text messages and handed their phones in voluntarily and untouched.

You just think that whoever gets the next letter delivered is going to be vital, don't you?

Love this. One thing an organisation like the AFL hates, it's court orders to hand over documents. Those shredders will be working overtime.

They have the power to seize computers / servers as well it's not just hard copies they're after. It's nearly impossible to remove data from a computer, unless of course Caligula and Vlad were out the back of AFL HQ smashing hard drives while Windy Hill or Tullamarine or wherever that shite club calls home slowly burnt to the ground.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

They've pleaded guilty to the WorkSafe case.

Including members who are no longer members. Essendon sent out 3 game memberships in round 18 to all members who didn't re-sign telling them they understand the past couple of years have been difficult and they don't want long term members years of continuous membership to be broken because of it, so here's a free membership and we've added you to our total for the year.

My wife got one and was counted as an Essendon member for 2015 despite buying a membership and supporting a different club.

That's little more than a slap on the wrist considering how much this saga has cost them. James Hird alone cost them 10 times that amount.

Agreed, but I think it paves the way for players to sue the club later on in their careers. This supplement saga will be ongoing for the next 20 years !!! (couldn't happen to a nicer club)

I imagine WADA have got them now they have admitted guilt to not conforming to WADA rules .

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

In the overall scheme of things, the Work Safe action is probably not that big a deal, but taken in isolation what a damning indictment.

AFL football clubs are institutions that outstanding young men (and teenage boys) are sent to every year. Many come directly from the family home (thinking of that excellent Bailey Williams article) interstate, with their families entrusting the club to house the young man/child and provide all supports for their well being.

Within that context, a club has been charged by a government authority of failing to provide the basic requirements of a safe workplace. Amongst other things they pressured these youngsters in their care to have experimental drugs routinely injected into their bodies. The club entrusted these activities to dubious characters, failed to properly supervise the programme, keep a record of what substances were involved and took steps to hide the programme.

Being charged with failing in their most basic responsibilities (player safety and welfare), the club chooses not to mount any defence whatsoever. Utterly disgraceful.

Regardless of any other proceedings by WADA or whoever, this alone should damn this club for years to come.

I wonder if a parent will say "nup, they ain't getting their hands on my son" and cite the WorkSafe/AS/WADA investigations and findings as evidence that their stinking carcass of a club is an undesirable workplace for young people. You'd be a bit concerned surely?
