Re: BT's very, very, very, very early list management thread 2019-2020
Updated May Update:
Six list moves out: Picken (Ret), Boyd (Ret), Morris (Ret), Dickson (Ret), Roberts, Porter (6 out, list vacancies)
Depth Keepers: we still need some depth, so Webb & Dale might be retains to avoid having a bunch of late picks
Risks: SA clubs looking at out of contract SA talent like Williams, Daniel & Young
F/S: Kellett looks like the main possible target at the moment
Current Picks: 7, 25, 42, 43, 47, 79 (61 given for Duryea)
Needs: With Roberts gone we have Trengove, Cordy & Young if he re-signs. KPD is one area. Some midfield polish and high pressure, dynamic small forward. Tomlinson seems likely to stay at GWS so that's one door shut. With Boyd retiring, a KPF would be nice (especially if the can take a turn in the ruck).
Options: I'd still look at packaging two 40's picks for an early pick in the 30's in a draft points trade. So then having something like picks 7, 25, 32ish, 42 & 79. So five picks and six vacancies. Pick 79 offers a back stop to secure Kellett for free if he slides passed pick 52. Pick 42 could slide after compo, so it will be interesting where Kellett's perceived value is and how Sam Power can work it to advantage.
That extra spot (or probably two if there's a trade request out) could open up a spots for a free agent or two, including Cognilio, Sam Day or Astbury of real quality. With the trend of trading players a year before they come free agents, no doubt some names will bob up if we would trade pick 7 (which we offered for Wingard). I wonder if we'd make a 'Tom Boyd' offer on Peter Wright, the player we were going to pick with the pick we sent to GWS (BMac told me this). I don't see the need for more fringe trades, unless there's some need addressed and the club thinks they can get them to another level.
So I think things are looking interesting the year from the list side. We had $900,000 to offer Wingard, now we are $900,000 light from Boyd (at least). $1,800,000+ cap space. Sam Power has a war chest in picks, top 10 pick to use or trade, a good second rounder, these three picks in the 40's allow Power to get really creative, probably one F/S, plus Sam Power has a war chest of salary cap for free agents. But the need remains to sign the SA boys as soon as we can and having enough people calling and receiving calls from player managers sniffing opportunity.Last edited by bulldogtragic; 16-05-2019, 09:28 PM.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

It would be the ultimate 'full circle' moment to trade for 2MP, given, as BT has pointed out, we would have likely used pick 6 on had Shocktober not happened.Comment

On 2 metre Peter he was going to sign early this year but nothing has happened yet. A good sign. Agree he would fit in our team nicely.Comment

2MP is overrated, IMO. He's that in between type, not quite a key forward, not quite a ruckman. Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

Sadly, I think Williams is gone. If he's not getting a game now he'll certainly be listening to offers and the Crows have apparently been interested in him for a while.
I'd be staggered if Lachie Young isn't upgraded to the main list and potentially 1-2 players from the mid-season draft too if they show any form.
Lastly, Dale is rated so is likely to be kept. Webb is probably lucky he's contracted for this year but the Hawks have been interested in the past so I'd ask the question. They need running depth and we need the draft points in 2020.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Not sure the cost vs production works out. We'd probably prefer more of a genuine, mobile type who can play a bit higher.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Exactly. We need to replace Crameri and Stringer. 190cm high forwards who can run and fight the fight. The Fergus might be one but we still need another. What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment
