Just a note that I don't think Kellett would qualify as a category B rookie (international, next generation academy, from another sport, etc).
Yeah, it depends if we went 100%. Say Carlton get AMT, then we go Papley. We'd have to committed because if we give up a top 10 pick and not much comes in, that's a disaster. Virtually every piece of the puzzle needs to be in place and executed with the efficiency of the Corleone Family in one event.

      Good effort BT.

TBH I think Brad Hill has greater value than Martin. 2017 B&F and a key member in Hawks premiership teams. I suspect taking Stephen as a FA would be a condition too. Brad is under contract and Freo lost their best mid last year as well so will demand overs.

Pic in the teens gets Martin done.

I think Walla stays and we end up with someone like Dan Butler for a third rounder.

This is the part of the strategy where the players names are important and somewhat unimportant. Which is why to me we commit to it, or takes a more conservative approach. Take Steve Hill as you say if he's forced as part of a deal on Brad. Say Tomlinson gets a bigger offer from the Saints. Hill then becomes the free agent in the scenario, Hill takes the AMT spot, and that pick 16 gets waved around for a good KPD, say Alex Keith or Sam Day (FA). Our steak knives option for a small forward could be Butler or Gray.

There's near infinite options and questions of individual players. The question is more, would or should we go about securing 3 first rounders and putting them all on the trade table with $2M and having a first pick at pick 80. And is the list ready for this and will the players selected move is closer to a premiership.

          Great analysis BT

we will need to factor decent coin for Bailey Smith & Schache if he continues to improve. They are all up for renewal next year.

I've been looking at next year, and we are all a little blind on Schache. I hoped when we signed him we renegotiated his current terms, but some of the press at the time indicated that we 'might' have taken his $500,000 a year deal that the Lions had. If that's the case, there's a chance he's re-contracted at or even lower than the current deal. I'm very bullish on him, but his two years to date aren't deserving of a half million yet. So this might not be too much of a problem.

But Bailey Smith is potential area for attention depending on how long he holds out for. That said, if next year we were to let Jong & Lynch go (both re-signed with other clubs chasing them) that will free a little up. Trengove will want an extension into 2021 as a 30yo bits and pieces player. He signed for $450,000 a year initially, is he worth the same? Being that we haven't found a long term role for him yet, maybe he's not quite worth that dollar figure. Close, but not quite. Easton Wood is also up next year, and I'm confident his contract will be less than his post captaining the premiership team contract. Probably less years and less money. If we still have a crush of inside mids (Bonts, Wally, Libba, Dunk's, Macrae, McLean, Smith, Lippa, Jack Martin if we landed him) who all can't fit into the team and function better as a team, we might need to look at off loading one, or other teams come and poach one. That will solve a logistics issue as well as free up some cap too.

Good points you raise, but I'm hopeful we can deal with them. Bailey Smith this year and Schache next year.

I think it was mentioned somewhere that Schache was already on good coin at Brisbane and that carried over to his new deal with us.

A lot of press reported during the trade period that other clubs were scared off by the homesickness combined with his new sizable contract extension he got earlier in the year from Brisbane, at $500,000 per season.

Well done BT. I heard recently that possibly B.Hill and possibly his brother could be a swap for Geelong's Kelly. Only someone's opinion at this stage.

Interesting article in the column on the inside back page of the Herald-Sun today:

Is an Essendon cult hero on the radar of a neighboring club that has floated a plump contract past his manager?

I wonder if that is Tippa and us?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

There was something last week saying we and Carlton are keen on AMT.

Media mentions of us and players that I’ve read: Jack Martin, B. Hill, Tomlinson, AMT & Ed Langdon. We could be one of several Vic clubs interested in Alex Keith.

PG's indigenous comments makes me think we have a couple on the radar hence his statement. Wouldn't be surprised if Brett Goodes has a role to play in enticing Tippa to our club.

Day sounds like he re-signs and Carlton are rumoured to be in the box seat for Gray, who is gettable.

Hartley is a FA too and if I'm being honest I love Fletch but Hartley is an upgrade. Can take the no 1 KPF, no world beater but is serviceable. Bombers fans note his wife has just had a baby so would likely move for the security of extra years and wouldn't cost much. I'll admit I'm still stung by watching our VFL side run around with Sweet, Fletch, then some mid-sizers. We're an injury to Trengove away from disaster.

I do think Bailey Williams is traded at the end of the year and Adelaide Crows (who were rumoured to be interested) have a bunch of players I like - Greenwood and Keith near the top, but Keith loves Adelaide and Greenwood has been linked to a big offer from GCS. His name isn't mentioned much but I'd be all over Fogarty, we'd need to add picks though.

We'll pick up CCP with a late pick/rookie pick too, plus we'll want JUH the year after.
