Does Phillipou give off Jack Macrae vibes? I've seen few mins of highlights it was the first player that came to me.

Good question but I think there are many differences between the two of them
Macrae is a contested ball beast and accumulates his possessions like few others can.
Phillipou is a longer kick and not scared to take shots for goal. He's a good mark overhead and effective in the midfield but he does chip it around a bit which is similar to Macrae.

I think he will be gone before our pick.

Weddle did a good job on Cadman and is an interesting prospect but it's always difficult projecting how those awkward 190cm types develop into AFL players. He's one I'll watch with interest over the years.

GVGjr - I agree that Hayes looks the most likely of the KPD bunch. I'm glad he developed a marking and rebounding aspect to his game this year as it's difficult hanging your hat on being a purely negating defender. Fans of Busslinger need to be aware that he may struggle to become an AFL quality KPD despite his height. More of a tall flanker.

With regards to Hustwaite, he is another interesting one. He can be class with the football and does have time but I would like to see him generate more of the football. He has all the attributes to become a quality AFL player and you can see why he is appealing to recruiters but there is a question mark over his intensity and ability to compete against the best in the AFL.

Personally, I'm a big fan of Hollands. He has all the attributes to become an elite AFL wingman. I wouldn't be upset if he found his way to the Dogs as I think we could benefit from his skill set.

The final one I'll mention is Konstanty. He's an interesting player. He looks like he could become a quality small forward, he is quick, tackles and is very dangerous around the ball. I understand those types of players aren't big possession winners but there's still a doubt on whether he gets enough of the ball to be truly damaging and make the next step.

I'm not going to pretend I know everyone but generally speaking there are more quality midfielders within our first pick range (11-20).

As a rule, I think we target best available which would most likely be a midfield type (except Hayes) which means we target specific skill sets later in the draft, depending on what we believe is important. A developing ruckman? A key position player? A rough diamond who we like?

Great summary Swoop and I like the names you have mentioned. The depth this year is impressive and it's why I'm hoping we have a real crack at getting a few draft picks inside of the top 40.

A couple of players worth adding to the mix are:

Bailey Humphrey
185cm forward/midfielder
After missing a lot of the season with an injury Humphrey has really burst into calculations as someone that might be available around our pick. He's an exceptionally strong player with a genuine burst of speed. He can also take a mark when he is up forward.
Humphrey can be wasteful with his goal kicking but I think most clubs would back themselves to see a significant improvement there.
His field kicking looks to be effective.

Max Gruzewski
192cm defender/forward
He's one of the more versatile players this year capable of being an effective forward or defender. Plays with a lot of vigor and really goes for his marks. His athleticism and power catches the eye and on top of that his skill level stands up in tight contests.

Humphrey looks a player! I also like Mitch Szybkowski.

Gruzewski at 192cm is another interesting one. Good aggression but tricky height. He could end up being a Mitch Georgiades type which would be handy.

I try not to be too negative but I really hope we don't end up with Elijah Hewett, he just doesn't impress me. I thought both Metro and Country midfielders showed him up.

I don't really have a preference for the type of player we might select with our first pick because we simply need good footballers.
Losing Dunkley might mean that it should be a midfielder but lets face it if by some miracle Cadman was available with our first pick then that's who we should be taking. I guess the same would apply if we rated Matthew Jefferson that highly as well.

Phillipou, Humphrey, Clark, Ginbey and Jefferson might be around the mark and still available when it comes to our pick.
Once that first pick is completed we might be able to shape some of the later selections to balance our list.

I wouldn't be happy unhpappy with that, and he'll be a professional from day one.

It'll be interesting to see what comes out of the Dunkley deal because we can really shape the draft if we end up with 3 picks in the Top 20. It allows us to be a lot more strategic with the players we target.
