Re: 2022 Draft Watch
I'd like us to consider Alwyn Davey jnr if he doesn't nominate father son for Essendon
If Phillipou was to slide for what ever reason that would be a fantastic result
He measured in at at just over 190cm and just over 89kg
His sprints were impressive
5M 1.054
10M 1.753
20M 2.993
2Km 6.25M
Phillipou is my No 1 target, he has the potential to be one of the best in draft.Comment

Re: 2022 Draft Watch
I wonder if, in hindsight, Port will rue not taking pick 8 to draft to get him (and others, with their other picks) instead of selling the farm for JHF (who will be good).
He has to be in the 5-10 range.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Later today I'll do a write up on players that might be around our pick and Phillipou would be me preference over the lot of them but to be honest I can't see how he falls much past 7.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 2022 Draft Watch
This is a bit of a strategy question but West Coast have picks 8 and 12 and are rumored to be targeting local boys.
If we aren't really interested in Reuben Gibney I wonder if there is any advantage in false flagging our interest in him so that WC hear that we might take him at #11?
That might change their thinking if one or two of the more fancied players slide down the order if they strongly suspect that he will definitely not be available at their pick 12.
I daresay all it would take is a phone call to Cal Twomey to put out the word that we're keen on Ginbey etc. and the rest of the world will know, so why not?
I know Petric was mentioned in here and he is an athletic prospect. I can see why a club may use a latter pick on him. Despite his size, I don't think he plays "tall" and rather if he does make it, it may be as an athletic wingman. I'm not sure if this is a fair comparison but I'm thinking someone like Simon Cox. Good height, skills but is more of a mid/flanker in a bigger body.Comment

Re: 2022 Draft Watch
OK, here are some players that I think could be available for our pick 11.
Bailey Humphrey
Midfielder/Forward, 184cm, 86kg
Injury interrupted season but he played some eye catching games at the start and the end of the season.
Strong, fast and good skills although his goal kicking accuracy needs a lot of work.
If we are looking for an impact player and Humphrey he should be right in considerations.
Did not test at the combine.
Mattaes Phillipou
Midfielder/Forward, 190cm, 89kg
One of the youngest players in this years draft and he is also one of the most versatile players who is more than capable of holding his own in the midfield and making an impact up forward.
Long kicking, a strong overhead mark and a great blend of speed and endurance.
Son of former Bulldog Sam, Phillipou is an accurate kick for goal and very good in contested ball situations.
Tested very well at the combine with his speed and endurance. Should go early but you never know your luck.
Cam Mackenzie
Midfielder, 188cm, 83kg
Good all-round player who is a smart decision maker and nice kicking skills
To me he just doesn't show enough upside or x-factor but could be regarded as a safe bet at pick 11 but not an inspired one
Saints might be sufficiently committed to him as an NGA player where it's doesn't come to our decision.
Jhye Clark
Midfielder, 180cm, 77kg
Ball magnet midfielder who seems to have a few clubs interested in him with Geelong leading the charge.
He's a tough player who attacks the footy and more than capable of playing a lot of senior football in his first season.
Jedd Busslinger
Key defender, 196cm, 82kg
As we get closer too the draft day Busslinger has been sliding down the order.
One of the best intercept defenders in this years draft although there doesn't appear to be a lot of competition.
Earned All-Australian honors from limited games. As tempting as adding a young tall defender is given our list position I'd be very tempted to pass on him at this pick.
Matthew Jefferson
Key forward, 195cm, 83kg
Played some stunning games during the season and he is a terrific overhead or on the lead mark.
Mixed results in his Combine testing where he did well in his sprints but was in the bottom bracket with agility and endurance.
I think it's fair to say there is a lot of work to be done to get him fit enough but a lot of players are like that.
We might look loaded for key forwards but Jefferson would still be strongly considered with no need to be rushed in his development.
Oliver Hollands
Midfielder, 183cm, 71kg
Lightly built running machine who could be a ready made Lachie Hunter replacement.
His elite endurance really stood out during the year and regarded as a two way runner and his combine results confirmed that winning the 2km time trail.
Smart footballer who reads the play and he possesses good kicking skills.
He is right in the mix to be considered with our first pick.
Josh Weddle
Defender, 191cm, 87kg
Versatile 3rd tall defender type who also possess an impressive overall athletic package.
His combine results had him elite in endurance, sprints and his vertical jumping.
I saw a lot of him during the season and he is a genuine eye catcher with his competitive nature.
He would be regarded as a real bolter at this selection but if WOOF's The Doctor is considering him at this pick I wouldn't argue.
Brayden George
Forward, 185cm, 87kg
What could have been for George this year. One of the most eye catching players in this years draft was struck down with an ACL injury which could make him an absolute steal for the team brave enough to select him early.
Petracca comparisions highlight how seriously some rated him before his injury.
I would also add Alwyn Davey but only if he doesn't nominate Essendon as a father son.
He's one of a few players who don't need a lot of the footy to make an impact.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 2022 Draft Watch
Good write up G
Bailey Humphrey almost certain to go early and well before we get a chance. Swans are all over him and looking to package their 2 first round picks to move up the order to grab him.
Jhye Clarke - doubt he gets past Geelong.
St Kilda are the interesting one. I think they need a key forward to help Max King out. Jefferson would seem a good fit for them.
Carlton? A key defender perhaps. Maybe Busslinger might suit them.
If Jefferson & Busslinger do go before our picks it is likely someone, Phillipou or MacKenzie potentially, will slip through to us.Listening to Brahm's 3rd RacketComment

Re: 2022 Draft Watch
Hewett is an interesting player. Personally, I'm not a fan and the consensus is generally similar with opinions that I value, yet he is continually placed within the first round by Twomey and the like. I feel like he could be a genuine slider on the night.
I also think the more people look at Hayes, the more question marks are raised about his game. He could also potentially fall out of the first round with clubs not willing to take the risk.
Going the other way, someone like Barnett could sneak up based on his potential. I wonder whether we consider him at 21? Tim is on a 2 year contract, Sweet doesn't appear to be a long term option and Darcy will most likely become a key position option. We need a long term ruck option on our list, is he the man or do we rate someone later in the draft?Comment
