    Re: 2022 Draft Watch

If anything, it is extremely even after 10 and it is difficult separating a lot of the players. It's probably a great chance to get some decent prospects in the 2nd and 3rd round due to the evenness.

NGA question. We currently have pick 39. We know there'll be at least two father sons in Ashcroft and Fletcher. This will push our pick back to at least 41.

If we use pick 39 (pushed back to 41) on Munkarra, does Essendon have the option to match or does that still count as a pre-40 pick?

Swoop, Brisbane will lose 4 picks to cover Ashcroft and Fletcher.
Essendon could lose 1 or 2. Pick 39 might come in to 36 or so.

Thank you! I was wondering how that would work.

He also guesses that Rowe and Aarts would be on our DFA radar. Which pretty much anyone and everyone has guessed.

Reckons Mitch Wallis as a development coach that actually sits on the rookie list (assuming for soft cap avoidance) is a great idea for a club. Good enough to demand the very last spot at the club as a player for depth, but a very solid citizen to help develop younger players.
He's not as sharp with the draft as he previously was but Aarts or Rowe makes sense for us.

                Re: 2022 Draft Watch

Alwyn Davey Jnr (and his twin Jayden) have until Wednesday to nominate with Essendon. It appears that his management might be trying to get a longer initial contract than two years (as Father/Sons can stipulate a minimum contract beyond two years - Ashcroft stipulated 4 years with Brisbane and got it as an example). He's repeatedly said his management will make the decision, so this makes a certain amount of sense for the delay.

If this is the sticking point, I wonder if a club with a late first rounder/early second rounder might hold out to him a promise that if drafted they will immediately extend his contract out (by perhaps another year) to convince his management to not nominate Essendon. I assume his twin brother (who did his ACL this year) might be tempted to not nominate Essendon either and hope for a rookie draft spot at the same club, if that club wanted two small indigenous forwards. A 'reverse Kyle Dunkley' move against Essendon.

Not saying that club is us, but it could be an interesting move by a club who rates him and has a pick ahead of Essendon's Pick 22 to try to secure his services by offering a slightly longer rookie contract which Essendon may be seemingly withholding. I assume Essendon will come to the party if it's just a matter of one year though. But a fascinating aspect of an obscure rule none the less.

Good pick-up BT. You might have answered the question I had about why they hadn't nominated.
He's a decent prospect and I'd hate for Essendon to land him after their pick 22.

With their Pick 22 pushing out to Pick 24 with Ashcroft and Fletcher bids, I'd hope a bid comes in by our Pick 23 at worst...

Surely Dodoro just signs off on the extra contract. The joint will implode if two exciting Father/Sons turn their back on the club in the immediate term, and even worse if one or both turn out to be handy player in the longer term. They've made far worse decisions than giving a talented kid some more time on a rookie contract.

                        Re: 2022 Draft Watch

Depending on who is available with our first pick we should consider placing a bid on Alwyn Davey providing he nominates because I think he is a good enough player to be considered around our pick and that we need to make sure Essendon burn though pick 22 to obtain him.

It's still very unclear to me who we might target or who might slide down the order and be an unexpected surprise.
Could it be Jed Busslinger? I know a lot of our supporters would be exceptionally happy to get a KP defender during the draft period but height aside I'm not sure Busslinger would answer that for us.

Could we pull off a surprise and draft Ed Allan or could it be the son of a former player in Mattaes Phillipou?
Others that might be considered are Matthew Jefferson, Josh Weddle and Lewis Hayes.

I'm happy that Dom Milesi and the team will finally have a few early picks to work with and not have to focus more on father son and NGA talent.

I keep reading that we are only intending to bring in 3 players via the draft but I hope we can find a way to increase that to 4 because I think there is some exciting players that will be available later on.

Re Busslinger the guys said they go with a best available philosophy so I'm not sure we would chose him based on positional need.

It's a tough one, I think there will be better players available at our first pick but I'd love a future tall defender.

We would only take him if we thought he was the best player available at that pick and I think we could do better but if we rate him around that 12th best player in the draft there is a fair chance we will select him and that would make some of our supporters happy.

Just on the best available - I guess we would have some sort of list and cross them off as the picks go through. When it comes to our pick, surely if there are a couple of players within the ball park, ie, around 10, 11, 12, 13 - we switch to needs. Picking the best players is hard when you have ranked them in some way.

Perhaps with later picks we may consider changing the order based on the previous selection (e.g. a small forward at pick 11 means we may skip one at pick 21).
