But before we say Jamarra is 'Bont level rare', let's actually have a think about what Bont had done at the same stage of his career (he won another B&F in 2017 AND finished top 3 in his first year, 2015) beforehand.

Bont is putting together a resume the likes of which our footy club has never seen. The only person who is Bont level rare right now is Bont. The other two boys - they are kids with potential...they look to be talented for sure but they aren't doing 'bont things' just yet.
I wouldn’t compare anyone to Bont he is unbelievably gifted but I do believe we have players who can rip a game apart and will be extremely good.
People forget Jamarras first two years were practically non existent and it was nothing to do with him.
The media are a disgrace in this space, first they had a go at Bevo for not playing him and he wasn’t up to it to two years later the kid is a gun and Bevo did the right thing.
Darcy we know has massive attributes we also know it takes a few years for his kind of body to grow as it did with English and Naughton, it also will with Croft.
I am huge on all these players being great players, if we can keep them together in 3 years time it’s going to be a dynasty if we get it right. We need to sell that to all of them.
    Bring back the biff

Yeah but he was injury prone in his first years . He couldn’t look at a blade of grass without getting injured . I remember he ran past a player and broke his own nose at one stage.
He was always flopping around at the slightest knock.
He has now got over that.

Clarke missed a lot of the pre season and a number of games at the beginning of the year. It is only his second year at this level and deserves a chance. Watched himn a bit and he looks the type who has the smarts and i think his best will be at the top level if given the chance. A lot of players find it easier to play ones than 1's and more so in the role Clarke plays.

Yep. He kicked that goal against Melbourne in 2014. I remember because my son had gone to the USA with his mum in 2014 and I sent him a link to the video saying that we might just have found ourselves a player
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Jamarra has done a bit...but is not exactly in the same ball-park. Darcy has done less...

Darcy has been at the club as long as Bont had when he won his first B&F.

I love the positivity mate, but Bont is several levels above either of those two boys. They have potential....at the same stage of his career, he was our best player and acknowledged as such throughout the competition.
It is a good point. They are not a match for Bont. two years in.

Not suggesting they have the influence of Bont. yet though.

Agree that for JUH and Darcy it is still talent-as-potential.

But to my eyes JUH is the purest forward since Royce Hart. In full flight it is like watching art! (Although the kicking coach might be handy for all bar Darcy!)

Again JUH is yet to fulfil his talent to a Royce Hart level, but having that potential is what I think is rare.

Similar with Darcy, we have seen glimpses showing that if he fulfilled that potential he could be anything.

Probably what I should have said is that they have Bont. level potential - a very rare thing.

I can see the hard pragmatist argument that potential means nothing until fulfilled though.

                        Re: 2023 Draft Watch

                        From the Mongrel Punt:

                        THE PERFECT 2023 AFL DRAFT

Ah, draft season, the final stop for the year until the offseason truly begins and we turn our attention properly to the summer sports. Not everybody likes the draft that much, but I certainly do and there?s nothing a draftnik like myself likes more than to match players to teams.

What does every team need to accomplish in the 2023 AFL Draft? We?ll look at each team?s goals in this article, as well as possible selections for each team. I?ll also give a rough estimate of how many picks will actually be used.

We all know what a Harley Reid or a Zane Duursma can do for a team, but do you know what a Will Patton or a Will Lorenz will do? Never fear, what your team could do for its later picks is included here as well. Every pick will be included, even if it?s a later-round pick that I will simply be recording as a pass.

Oh and before anyone asks, I?m not mulling over rookie draft elevations here. This is purely an exercise for the eligible draft prospects, so one of the ?passes? could very much be a rookie elevation.

Let?s get to it. But first, here?s the top 50 as it comes to prospects in my opinion. We?ll get to some more specific profiles as we go team by team, but here are the basics:

AFL DRAFT BIG BOARD: TOP 50:

1 Harley Reid, Midfield, Bendigo, 185cm/85kg

48 Will Lorenz, Midfield, Oakleigh, 186cm/72kg

                        WESTERN BULLDOGS:

                        Picks: 5, 48, 50, 52, 53, 56, 69, 72, 75, 90

What they will need to accomplish:

It looks like the Bulldogs have their choices all but locked in for the draft, with three picks likely to be the call. Jordon Croft will be a first-round bid, while the team will be hoping NGA prospect Luamon Lual gets outside the top 40 (which is a possibility).

The only question is who does the club take at #5? Nick Watson is the longtime favourite but Ryley Sanders is also in consideration as well. Sanders is probably off the board to Hawthorn if the Hawks can?t get Zane Duursma, but the team faces a tough choice if both are available.

It?s tough, but I believe Watson is the better choice. ?The Wizard? is one of the more exciting small forward prospects in recent memory, and would be an excellent partner in crime for Cody Weightman.

#5: Nick Watson, Forward, Eastern Ranges, 170cm/66kg
#48: Jordan Croft, Forward, Calder Cannons, 200cm/80kg (father/son)
#50: Luamon Lual, Defender, GWV Rebels, 181cm/71kg (NGA)
#52: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#53: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#56: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#69: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#72: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#75: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#90: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks

Sure...but the best key backs in the game spend their developmental years as forwards (primarily) or defenders - where they become expert readers of ball movement, understand angles, understand risk reward situations - and he's just going to jump in and do that is he?

49 Kane McAuliffe, Midfield, North Adelaide, 187cm/86kg
                            50 Tarkyn O?Leary, Wing, Sandringham, 178cm/70kg

                            WESTERN BULLDOGS:

                            Picks: 5, 48, 50, 52, 53, 56, 69, 72, 75, 90

What they will need to accomplish:

It looks like the Bulldogs have their choices all but locked in for the draft, with three picks likely to be the call. Jordon Croft will be a first-round bid, while the team will be hoping NGA prospect Luamon Lual gets outside the top 40 (which is a possibility).

The only question is who does the club take at #5? Nick Watson is the longtime favourite but Ryley Sanders is also in consideration as well. Sanders is probably off the board to Hawthorn if the Hawks can?t get Zane Duursma, but the team faces a tough choice if both are available.

It?s tough, but I believe Watson is the better choice. ?The Wizard? is one of the more exciting small forward prospects in recent memory, and would be an excellent partner in crime for Cody Weightman.

#5: Nick Watson, Forward, Eastern Ranges, 170cm/66kg
#48: Jordan Croft, Forward, Calder Cannons, 200cm/80kg (father/son)
#50: Luamon Lual, Defender, GWV Rebels, 181cm/71kg (NGA)
#52: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#53: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#56: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#69: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#72: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#75: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#90: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
That's weird - they have Lual going within the top 40 picks, yet also sliding to us at pick 50 with matched bids?
de La Rue has apparently met with multiple clubs, ditto Mannagh. Could be late smokies

Hastie has his fans too so that would be quite the slider to see him at 40. I haven't seen enough of him to say whether it's right or wrong.

It?s tough, but I believe Watson is the better choice. ?The Wizard? is one of the more exciting small forward prospects in recent memory, and would be an excellent partner in crime for Cody Weightman.

#5: Nick Watson, Forward, Eastern Ranges, 170cm/66kg
#48: Jordan Croft, Forward, Calder Cannons, 200cm/80kg (father/son)
#50: Luamon Lual, Defender, GWV Rebels, 181cm/71kg (NGA)
#52: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#53: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#56: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#69: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#72: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#75: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
#90: Absorbed during father/son and academy picks
Wow they're saying hawks take Sanders if Duursma is off the board. So Sanders over Watson/Curtin. Haven't seen that before.

I tried to get in to the mongrel punt. Had a subscription for the season. But just couldn't find enough to warrant an ongoing subscription.

I find the quantity of content to be strong, and great attempts for one person (for the most part) to cover the whole comp on and off field. But that was often to the detriment of the quality of the content. They are also badly in need of a proofreader.
