Everyone is in Melbourne. They don’t see him play.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Yep, that's one of the biggest challenges. I'm sure clubs have scouts in WA and they would have access to WA some footage of games but it might not be working that well. The fact that WA didn't perform that well in the Carnival might not have helped either.
Is Mick Ablett still supposed to be pushing the WA cause?

MJP is right the so called experts producing the rankings don't see them play. GVGjr is correct the recruiters do, but they don't do the rankings.

It's why the Eagles were able to hide WA prospects so effectively.

            Re: 2023 Draft Watch

I wonder what position we take into the draft. Sure we will most likely get one of the following players: Duursma, McKercher, Watson, Sanders or Curtin but most one of the last 3. We then will match the points to bring in Croft.
From there it starts to get interesting and vastly less predictable.

Lual would certainly be on the wish list but are currently in a position to draft him unless if he is taken inside of pick 40. After that we should have the points to match any bid.

My guess is our position on if we will draft 3 or 4 players will largely be determined on if the players we have on our list are still available. We would most likely have 6 or 8 players that we have short listed.
Ideally we need to bring in a small or versatile mid sized defender especially if Lual is selected before pick 40. Athletic players should also be on the shopping list.

"Scouts" is a pretty broad term though. Are we talking a bona-fide member of recruiting staff, or a 15 year old who watches 3 x u18 games on the weekend (generally games the recruiting manager can't go to or doesn't want to go to) for a couple of k stipend a year?

The latter type is actually one I've been acquainted with a couple of times and they're often just sent to games with instructions to watch and take notes on a couple of players who are already on the radar. If you didn't have a good under 16s and aren't in an elite pathway already, good luck getting noticed.

At a guess - Watson or Sanders at our first pick, grab Croft, we miss Lual, and late we pick up de la Rue keeping a list spot open for a train-on PSS pick

Well I'm talking about recruiting staff linked with the club. I'm assuming there would be a main person in the other states providing some talent identification information and a select few analyzing the data before the interviews start to happen.

Ryley Sanders is looking likely to be selected by Hawthorn (pick 4) or the Bulldogs (pick 5) in the upcoming draft, despite being linked to North Melbourne through their NGA - @chriscavanagh1 via @heraldsunsport

Interesting. That's the first time I've seen Sanders linked that high at Hawthorn. Who drops in that scenario? Probably Curtin.

I'd be very happy with that, he's a talent.

                          Prefer him to Watson

                            Think I would too.

We need another couple of young midfielders from the top end of the talent pool.

I still feel North will get number 1 somehow and the Eagles will take Curtin.

What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

MJP I noticed you didn't have Sanders in your list of players from a while back (unless my memory fails me).
Love to know what you think of him now we've been kind of linked. Ta.
