    Re: 2023 Draft Watch

    These Northern academies man.

There needs to be a rule in place like the NGA.

Maybe can't match inside top 20.

You mean like an equitable draft or something? Never happen.

Luamon Lual, an attacking, rebounding defender from the Greater Western Victoria Rebels, is tied to the Bulldogs' NGA with the Vic Country talent's parents both born in South Sudan before coming to Australia

He is also keen to get to the Dogs through the draft

Under NGA rules, the Bulldogs will be able to match a bid for the speedy defender if he is still available after pick No.40, with his draft range expected to start in the second round

He seems to be quite polarising. Some have him around the 20’s and some around 40’s, while some here see him as a rookie option. It seems like it’s anyone’s guess if clubs are this divergent too.

Any chance we pick up Lual we a pick before 40? Or will we be wiped out with Croft?

At this rate we won’t have a pick before 40 (ex. Pick 5) and can’t trade our F2. So, no.

                  So we can't trade a F2?

We should not be trading out our F2 without a plan to get a F1 or F2 back. Would be list management suicide.

                      No the rules are:

Keep your F1 - trade anything else you want
                      Trade your F1 - you must have a F2, F3 & F4

So having traded out our F1, unless something changes, we have to hold our picks. If we somehow got an extra F2, F3 or F4 then we can trade one if we want. Or if we got a F1 back, then we can trade out a later one.

Looks like we are aiming for a pick in 40s for Sweet, which I guess is for Lual

                          Doesn’t work like that.

                          1. We need the points from Sweet for Croft.
                          2. There’s a 197 point discount on Lual. So at say pick 46 the actual cost would be pick 61 to match the bid, not a pick in the 40’s.
                          3. Lual if he slides to us will be in late pick points left over from the full quota of points for Croft.

They don’t make it easy, that’s for sure. Lots of complex rules impacting us right now, FS points, matching bids and discounts, NGA cut offs, list spots to picks with points, future trading restrictions (plus list size) etc.

Interesting, we may have a situation where effectively we traded away our ability to select Luol. We could be debating in 3 years time whether our pick 4 selection was worth missing Luol for.
