I think we can get him if we want post pick 40. Before pick 40, really depends where we rate him.

I think that debate has already been had mate...the club pushed up into the top 5 for a reason - they value what is there more than they value Luol. And they value Croft more than they value Luol. I get the 'debate in three years time but you get that about every pick and every trade right??
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

        Do we miss Luol?

To me either he goes top 40 and don't worry about it, because we can't match anyway, or he goes after 40 and if we don't have the necessary picks surely we can do some lame swap of F3s or something to generate the points (or just go into deficit that round next year I think?).
I should leave it alone but you're not right

I seem to recall BT or someone else on here saying that Lual is a polarising player in a number of the phantom drafts with a very wide range of where people see him landing. I don't exactly know why but I feel like there is a genuine chance he is still available and it would be a great news story if he comes to us. We need to be recruiting a smaller defender and he fits that position for us.

Yes, to all that. If Croft goes super early (lets say pick 10) we'd owe 1116 points. Assuming 5 vacant list spots and pick 49 from Port we'd have 1262 points to match (before accounting for whatever picks GC have used and our picks sliding up the board) and would get back a pick with the difference. Something in the mid-high 60s maybe.

Then lets say Lual gets bid on at 40. We need to match 429 points with a 20% discount so 343 points (the discount is still there for NGA right?). Assuming conservatively all our late picks have moved up 5 spaces due to bidding (GC alone will use 5 picks at minimum and we will use 5 just on croft) those picks should be worth the 343 we need and if they somehow aren't or Croft somehow goes before 10 and we decide to match worst case is we can take a deficit on our next pick next year (which is a second rounder anyway)

Basically unless something crazy happens with Croft it's hard to see us not have the ability to match for Lual if we want him (pending BT approval of my analysis)

Yep. The discount is a flat 197 points by then, so we have more to spend. He’s ours if he slides.

Those don’t seem early second round numbers…

I've always been a bit confident he will be close to 40+ but it just needs one club to rate him.

I guess we will see, there’s more than just these numbers, but they don’t help him go super high I suspect on their own.

Does it not just keep autogenerating? SO if you traded your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th rounders it would just generate 6th, 7th, 8th rounders (and so on) until your quantity of draft picks matched the available list spots?

I wonder if they will upgrade rookie players with their two other picks

There are upgrades and a few other options now and it depends on how many list spots they open. They have one pick at the moment but that might change
