It is very weird we have so many so-called "elite" pathways, given how WA & SA differ for the 17 & 18 year olds.
I can tell you this part has been going on for a very long time. Back in 1996 a friend of mine was at an APS school. Didn't go on scholarship originally but was awarded one going into year 10. Was picked for U16 champs but would've missed a block of games for school team and school told him if he went to champs, he would lose scholarship. He went to champs, never went back to the school. Did end up in AFL but not a long career.

Nick Watson is a class above everyone else in the VM vs WA game today.
He's kicked 4 goals int he first half but he's been applying defensive pressure and unlike most players out there is just nailing his passes too.

Nyko gets no love at all from draft watchers but might be worth a late/rookie spot. Nate Caddy is eye-catching too, cleverly put peroxide through the hair too. Kicked 2 goals in the 3rd quarter.

Tholstrup in the middle for WA showing quite a lot this quarter. If tackled, tries to ride it and put the ball in a dangerous spot. Been caught once but to the eye ball seems the main man in there right now.

I think he's the best player in it this year but not many will agree with me.

I want to see Jed Walter one more time, he has genuine claims.
Gold Coast making out like bandits this year, with Read a top 10 chance and Rogers that small/energic type a likely first rounder too. 3 x academy kids all looking brilliant

Tassie & Queensland seem to have a bit of talent this year, no wonder the Allies look so good.

He's certainly one of the 4 best in my opinion but I'll go with McKercher and Reid as 1 and 2.

Is Charlie McCormack a Doc type of player?

                I like your thinking for 1 & 2

McCormack - not a Doc type but I do like the way he has played this series. A beautiful crunch goal today when he had hardly touched it. Reminds me of Lobb. Should get drafted.

                  Re: 2023 Draft Watch

Doc's focus on Nick Watson is well deserved. He was super impressive yesterday and he is a real difference maker in games.
He's added another bow to his skill set and is very much at home in the midfield and exceptionally dangerous as a small forward.

I think Melbourne will be ecstatic with father-son prospect Kynan Brown. He's a balanced and determined midfielder who can kick a goal as well.

Koen Sanchez was impressive for WA and Koltyn Tholstrup catches the eye. Daniel Curtain really stood out as a key defender

The champs the Allies had several quality players and none better than Colby McKercher who is a brilliant quick midfielder.
The Swans should be made to pay full book value for Caiden Cleary and the Suns might have to work out how to pay the #1 pick price from Jed Walter. Riley Sanders and Jake Rogers were prominent.

Metro's Caleb Windsor was impressive on the weekend, very balanced and a great user of the footy.

Vic Country had George Stevens who performed well and the number 1 pick favourite Harley Reid was a bit quiet.
Finn O’Sullivan and Darcy Wilson provided plenty of run and Michael Rudd is a tall forward target
One of the players I've been impressed with in Harry Demattia was very quiet.

Can you filter it down to who we may get in the teens ?
How the hell are we Charlie Clarke and a pick in the teens for Dunks.
Probably win Lions B and F.

I'm projecting that we will pick up two players before we match a bid for father-son prospect Croft and then later NGA candidate Lual.
In the mix would be George Stevens who is a 189cm defender/midfielder and who also trained with Croft and Lual with us in January.

Other players might consist of midfielder types like Harry Demattia, Darcy Wilson and Koltyn Tholstrup.

It's not a particularly strong draft at the top of the order but I think there is a lot of depth to it.

Imagine adding Watson to a forward line of Naughty,Marra,Weightman and Darcy.....

Maybe too much talent in one area of the ground but it would be exciting to watch.

That would be an awesome addition.

I think both McKercher and Watson will have huge impact from day 1. Especially if they play in good sides. I’d be looking at every avenue to move up the draft order to nab one.

Watson can play deep or high - I rate him across the ground. His field kicking stood out last weekend while other kids struggled to hit targets.

You never know your luck but teams holding the early picks will want to keep them. At the very least teams will have to get an over deal to part with early picks.
