Re: 2023 List Management Thread
#1: Small defender.
#2: Outside runner with genuine spread who can finish. We have two 'number 3' outside mids (Williams and Baker) who can fill a role but we don't have a true #1.
#3: Developing ruck.
#4: Developing inside mid with clean hands.
Of all the talk about intercepting defenders, I'm really not sure what Richards has to do to convince people he's that player...he IS that player.
We need to look at fixing opposition run-ons against us and having someone who can nullify the player with a hot hand surely helps.Comment

Can we add #5: A tagger. So many times this year I have seen teams win/lose games based on their best player being restrained/unrestrained. This is very true I for us over the years.

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
Main List Outs (4):
*Sweet
Bruce
Hannan
TOB
Main List Ins (2):
Scott (elevated)
*Coffield
Expected new contract:
Duryea
Net TWO vacancies.
Rookie List Outs (4):
Scott (elevated)
Roarke (must be elevated or delisted)
McNeil (as above)
McComb (delisted)
Raak (Cat B) (delisted)
OOC:
Crozier
Bedendo
McLean
Comment:
So we are net two open spots. Croz, McLean & Bedendo would make five. That means we can only take in 5 draft picks for matching bids. Now if our first pick is 5, then we have four picks to match bids. Right now our picks 37, 66, 69 & 72 will end up blowing out such that the last two might not have any points anyway. Perhaps the 66 might almost become without many points either. So for us, those fourths look like bugger all. Once GCS start matching bids they might nudge back into points but won’t likely be vastly impressive. Maybe 150 points if they burn through their picks before our fourths.
So let?s say if we trade out 11 & 18 too, then our only pick with points is Pick 40 (37 pushed out by McKay, Gresham & Doedee compo). That is only 429 points. Let us say Croft comes and we need about 1,100 points. We are way short with Sweet unlikely to make a huge difference. Pick 40 will need to be sold for a couple of thirds to make up some points.
We might have to take in 5 vacancies to use pick 5, the two third rounders and potentially two more picks with points. If that?s the case then we need to move Bedendo, McLean & Croz having signed Khamis, Keath and likely Duryea.
We could manufacture an extra list spot to save one of the three OOC players by moving a rookie list spot to the main list. But then that impacts our TPP as standard rookie contract wages aren?t included in the cap. So realistically I?d say Croz, McLean & Bedendo will go.
From there, we have five vacancies and say use 3 picks at the ND. That leaves two spots open. Which I suspect means McNeil or Roarke might be potentially looking at elevation after the ND to fill our list. Or we could use a late pick to re-draft Bedendo if that?s was something we wanted to do.
Then there?s four open rookie list spots. Say one held over for the MSD. One an SSP/DFA. Then there?s two picks at the RD.
There?s a lot of moving parts. But pressing is how we come up with 670 draft points. That’s not factoring in Lual sliding and costing points either. In an ideal world, Port’s pick in the third round will be about Pick 50. If they swapped that for a fourth say around 75 that would be a great outcome if we can somehow convince them to that.
That could be 330 points. Say 150 maybe in draft when GCS start matching bids and say 150 for selling Pick 40. Would be nice to find some more but unless GCS are handing over a later pick this year as part of a deal for Pick 5 then I’m not sure there’s a lot of scope especially with future trading rules if our F1 is going.Last edited by bulldogtragic; 07-10-2023, 04:24 PM.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
You want to recruit/select a player for who, being a tagged is their primary role?
I’m not on board with that. If you mean we give a couple of players roles as inside or outside run-with players with the whole ‘break glass in case of emergency’ type mindset, great. But these players need to get into the team with this as ONE of the arrows in their quiver, not their main identify as a player. What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment

DOGS LOOK AT FLAG DEE
THE WESTERN Bulldogs have emerged as a suitor for Melbourne premiership player James Harmes, who is looking at a new start with a year to go on his contract.
Clubs have viewed Harmes as being a trade option throughout this year despite being signed through to the end of 2024 with the Demons.
The Bulldogs have been looking at the midfield market through the year, with Harmes shaping as a possibility as he explores his trade opportunities.
Harmes had also been linked to Richmond, where his former Dees midfield coach Adem Yze is now senior coach, although the Tigers appear more unlikely as a destination.
The 28-year-old played nine games this season after attracting some interest from Essendon last Trade Period, having featured in the Demons’ 2021 flag win.
The strong-bodied midfielder has played 152 games for the club but finished the season in the VFL as the Demons were bundled out of the finals series. – Callum TwomeyBT COME BACK!

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
Agree but it?s a role we have not respected nor developed and I think it?s high time we do. Hewitt, Drew, Dunkley in GF are all decent players in their own right but I do think Bevo?s needs to rethink his no tagging mantra. Dunkley tagged De Goey in GF (albeit not very well late in Q4), and Bont has been blanketed in games-the Ballarat vs Plastics comes to mind after he was blitzing it in first half then Ward not only effectively tagged him, Ward himself played well too.
Libba famously has done it before but does it sacrifice too much of our drive?
Baz did it this year a couple of times and has the pace/endurance to run with anyone and can stick a tackle when motovated enough but is it a role he will embrace?
Macrae if dangled as a carrot to get back into the middle, does he have the capability for such a defensive role? He'd probably still get decent numbers if he could.
Maybe Garcia could make his name and get a spot this way?
West? Too see ball get ball? Has the strength to tackle and wrestle.
Hard to imagine Bont or Treloar filling that role
And we've been linked with Harmes from the Demons who I guess can do that role if a trade happens?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
So...imagine we’ve signed Harmes for this role and we kick the season off vs Melbourne (likely). Petracca is in the centre square with Harmes alongside him...tag assigned. Who are our other two starting mids and who goes out? What happens to Harmes when Petracca goes forward? What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment

Bevo does employ run-with players at times. Libba has been sent to influential mids many times in his career.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment
