Re: 2024 Draft Watch
An example of the Hotton pick going badly is Brayden George at North.
He was considered a "steal" at pick 26 and slid because he was recovering from an ACL
Unfortunately for George he did another ACL in the vfl during 2024.
North could afford to take the risk, not sure we can.
As I posted earlier in the thread Riley Garcia, Max King, Brodie Kemp and Elijah Hollands are all recentish draftees that haven't reinjured an ACL to this point after doing one in their draft year.
Sure there is a higher risk but that's built into a discounted draft price. It's fairly rare these days careers are ruined by ACLs.Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
Am I right to assume our pick 48 will move in by a net 7 positions once bids for Ashcroft, Marshall, Kako and Lombard are matched?
A likely scenario is pick 17 will move to 21. Pick 25 to 28 but 35 to 31 and 48 to 41 give or take one or two spots?Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
Roughly correct I think. If you look at the mock draft I posted a few pages back our picks ended up being 20, 29 and 35 for the first 2 rounds. Obviously it depends where bids are placed for some players but as you say our first 2 picks will slide back. Our third pick should stay roughly where it is at 35 because the previous slide back will be offset by the Brisbane and Essendon picks in the late 20s and early 30s being used up matching.Comment

Unless things really fall our way on the draft nights a more likely scenario is we get 2 or 3 versatile mids and a KP player.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

By your suggestions around our picks, it looks like a good draft coming up for us.Comment

From my limited viewing, my wish list based on our need for a mid, traditional forward pocket and half back is
17 Hynes/Berry
25 Hannaford/ Oliver
35 Clarke/moraesComment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
I'm not as convinced with Hynes as you might be. I wonder if what is working for him at the junior level transfers to the next level but that's a good list.Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
Liking the fact we?re being linked to Clarke. Sounds a likely type.
I suspect we?re heavily into a small forward at least once in the draft (subject to what else may flush out eg could we add Woodcock?) and if the right player is available at our first selection it might be worth a roll of the dice. It?s not always where the best are drafted but the early ones in recent years have been able to have almost immediate impacts either with their speed and defensive work or goal kicking nous. The downside is if you miss, they?re generally one trick ponies and they?re out of the club quickly with an early selection burned. Not a safe bet, but one we need to make I think.Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
If I'm understanding your question correctly, most players have some traits that clubs might not rate.
Sulzberger - Is a big midfielder, perhaps not quite quick enough but someone who should improve after a season or two at the VFL.
Hayes - Other than his slight frame I can't find anything that would be a negative and clubs shouldn't be put off by it.
Boxshall - The only knock on him might be his kick to handball ratio but he played as a inside mid so it's understandable.
If a club was going to use him on a wing or half back then he might thrive. He should be a top 30 player.
Ough - Not the most athletic of players but no real concerns.
Burmeister - Perhaps a but undersized as a ruckman but his leap and athleticism should more than compensate it.
You can't find reasons not to draft any just about any player but if you select good footballers with a great attitude clubs should be able to work any challenges/Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment
