Emma Quayle tweeted that some of the MD talks have dried up and that Collingwood want pick 4 off Melbourne to get Jack Martin.

I wouldn't be overly fussed(maybe even happy) with this if it meant we got Hogan with pick 6 and got to keep 5 for ourselves.

Talk this morning on Trade week radio is that Gold Coast have sent pick 2 too GWS for the first pick in the mini draft..

It's now been confirmed.

Gold Coast have sent pick 2, in return get pick 1 in mini draft, confirmed they will nominate Martin.

Its not looking like we will get Martin

There is also talk of picks 4 and 13 from Melbourne to Gold Coast for Caddy and other things, and that was part of the GC not nominating Viney early

Post adjusted - its done, Martin goes to the GC - that sucks

Guess we showed our hand on Jack Martin for the entire AFL to see and it has bitten us on the arse. GC have evaluated away from the media glare that he is a rare talent and have stayed very quiet with their intentions - Jack Viney was never going anywhere other than Melbourne and GC have decided that getting their hands on Martin is of far more importance than what pick Melbourne end up using for Viney. Pick 2 trumps anything we can possibly package up.

Melbourne now have picks 3 or 4 to bid for Hogan seeing as they don't have to part with either pick for Viney, and they are desperate for a big bodied key forward. We will be frozen out of the mini-draft unless we come in with far more than we anticipated parting with for MD2 - ie: pick 5 and a very good player. And seemingly not for the player we really wanted all along. So I fail to see how this is a good position compared to 30 minutes ago.

Just on Melbourne, they have picks 3 and 4 in the ND as well as pick 13 as part of the Scully compo, and they get Viney for pick 26. Part with pick 4 for Hogan (we can't better that unless we pay ridiculous overs), which means Melbourne get pick 3, Hogan, pick 13 and Viney. They also have the flexibility to package up pick 3 and 13 to try and secure get a superstar of the competition if they wanted to go down that path instead (and I'm not talking about a Dawes type either).
