Good idea about the bye, being brought forward.

I live in singapore, and there are 20-30 new cases reported everyday now, as the virus is in the community. We are back to stage 2 lockdown pretty much. Schools gone to home based learning, outdoor events closed, and no dining in at restaurants.
In hindsight, they should have closed the flights back in Feb. Social distance of 3m when out in public.



The strain from india is deadly, and it kills young people. My colleague uncle in india is a policeman and she told me all the cops had been vaccinated. Once of his colleague still died from it. When he goes out to work, he fears getting infected. This is a cop, fearing getting sick, which he has no control over. These are the stories you do not hear.

Everyone may have their own sense of response to this virus, but it affects the wider community once people get infected.

Just be very cautions and wear a mask. Once it gets out in the community, it could hit anyone.

Singapore and Taiwan thought they had the virus licked.

Taiwan has gone from zero cases for about a year to over 300 per day, we certainly don't want that. So lockdown inevitable.

I don't know that I would go as far as to say that about Singapore. From the moment we landed in late Dec 20, the willingness to embrace a level of "Covid normal" here was striking. Masks on everyone everywhere (including school children, my 2.5 year old is "encouraged" to wear one in class), and a nation (read: city state) wide tracing system complete with tokens for those that don't have enabled mobile phones. Every single business has to use the same purpose built system, right down to my yoga teacher who teaches groups of less than 5 outdoors as a hobby. And hilariously, until the latest uptick in lockdown, plenty of expats actually found drinking establishments closing at 10.30pm beneficial to their health!

There just seems to have been far more of an acceptance that compromises have to made for the long term, rather than the pendulum swinging wildly between acting like it's 2019 and completely shutting up shop. But, in saying that, Singaporeans have had to be damn pragmatic given they've been importing around 20-40 cases a day.

It comes down to living density. Places like Singapore have to keep it up due to people per square KM being so high. Same with places like Hanoi and Saigon where I have links to and they swing in and out of lockdowns or variants of readily.

Yeah this is why Taiwan's best defence was it's focus on not letting the virus in, in the first place, through the systems it put in place off the back of the SARS outbreak. They knew that population density would make it hard to put back in the bottle once it was in the community. They did so well until recently to delay the inevitable, but now they are really up against it.

My wife's family are in Kaohsiung and Taipei, and they're getting very concerned now.

I hope your wife's family are ok. I still have many friends in Taipei after working/Living there for 5 years, and they are also worried.

I was also in Singapore for a few years, and people certainly follow rules there, so it just goes to show how vigilant this virus is.

We just need the whole world to be vaccinated.

Even if not linked 4 is bloody brilliant. Lets face it half the city was restricting movement since Tuesday so spread would be less than expected.
