Re: Coronavirus Info & Helpful Direction
2 cases in Metro Victoria in 4 days (5.2M people). An elite group of athletes who get tested frequently. Yet WA puts them all in quarantine. The risk is close to zero, if not zero. Surely there’s a better way, this doesn’t seem like a necessary health decision by WA.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

At the very least, the AFL should have changed the fixture so our game is on Thursday or Friday night.
Ensures that the quarantine time is reduced, and the next round game vs North is currently unscheduled so it could be played on a Sunday, giving our guys the chance to have their 4 day break. Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

Re: Coronavirus Info & Helpful Direction
I find it interesting that there has never been a thread started for cancer, mental health and other issues where casualties have risen sharply and continue to do so in the last 18 months. The reality is not a single person has died from COVID in Australia in 2021 - I assume that is why media and all govts (federal, state and local) have walked away from death rates and ICU/hospitalisation rates as a measure of this virus, instead focusing the narrative on case numbers and exposure sites now, not to mention amplifying new variants that are so 'transmissible' that less than 10 people a day out of 25 million people are testing positive (almost all from HQ or are related to existing cases). That shows our health systems (unlike in other countries) are very robust and full equipped for all everyday medical procedures, and that COVID should now be treated as an everyday virus and a part of life that we need to be aware of but need to learn to live with normally.
So with respect to everyone who has contributed to this thread this year, I'm not sure of its value anymore. It was a very important thread last year when we had so much uncertainty about the real dangers of this virus when it was new, and it was a way for those of us isolated and alone to connect with a like-minded community. But that moment has well and truly passed - we have vaccines available for those who want it, and we have a virus that is clearly mutating and appears to be watering down into something far less deadly, which is exactly what viruses do.
I just find it incredibly sad that we have collectively lost our minds and have allowed our lives to be utterly dominated by one virus over literally everything else, especially when said virus is now not killing or hospitalising anybody in Australia. There are other crises that need urgent and proper attention that unfortunately aren't being given the profile of this virus. I hope common sense returns and we learn to live life as it is supposed to be intended, ie: completely normally as we did in 2019 before this virus was released into the world by China."Look at me mate. Re: Coronavirus Info & Helpful Direction
How many people died in the world today from heart-attacks? Stroke? From cancer? From suicide? From starvation? From cholera? Dysentry? From car accidents? You get the picture. This single-point laser focus from almost the entire world's media and govts on one virus is staggering to me. And it is even more puzzling relevant to Australia, where absolutely nobody has died this year from the virus but an increased number of people have died from causes directly related to and exacerbated by the strict lockdowns.
If we don't learn to live sensibly with this virus and in proportion to its greatly reduced risks, I fear for our basic freedoms and liberties ever coming back. Perhaps we should all stop driving (or reduce the speed limit to 5kph) so as to reduce the risk of road deaths from car accidents? It is utterly illogical IMO, as is the unwavering faith some people seem to have in mediocre, talentless and deeply unimpressive politicians of all parties and persuasions. If politicians were impressive and talented people, they would not be politicians."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

I get it, and I don't really think you're saying anything too controversial or political Sedat.
Like it or not, there's still an everyday aspect of the virus's impacts on our lives. Whether we think that's disproportionate to the virus threat is kind of a matter of opinion and isn't at the same time given governments and experts in the associated medical field are reasonably aligned.
The threat to me is still very very real, and it's not out of irrational fear that I am worried we're going to face an extremely challenging few months. Rather, it's that if we don't stay vigilant and acknowledge how precarious our current situation is we'll be back in lockdown for months, not weeks, very quickly.
As for the media, it's pretty simple. COVID content is cheap, has many talking heads with an opinion on it, requires basically no research and is recyclable. It's a bit like bushfires/ fire threat, the media loves that because it plays to fears and you can stick a chopper in the air and show multiple aerial shots of fires irrespective of the actual consequences of bushfires/ fire threat (high or low) at the time.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

The frustrating part to me is when the media/experts use India as an example of how bad it can get and why strict lockdowns and precautions are required, when Victoria is nothing like India and never will be.Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

Advocating for no lockdowns is fine but saying it's not worth discussing is missing the impact lockdowns are havingIf you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.
