Can we get away with 2 quicks, 2 spinners and S Marsh at 6? I don't think it's a bad option

Not sure why Steve Smith doesn't have a bowl these days.

Side strain. It would be nice if could bowl a few overs but given his batting prowess of late why risk it.

Maxwells bowling isn't good enough to be the 2nd spinner in India especially given he is a offie and we have Lyon.
Despite his enormous talent I struggle to see why he was selected since he wasn't even an automatic selection for the Vics in Shield cricket.

Yep thats my problem with him too. The Indians will have no problem seeing off his bowling.

Interesting that Trav Head has seemingly jumped ahead of Maxwell in the bowling stakes based on these ODIs

Zampa doing really well a against decent sub continent players. Good thing the selectors went with Warnie's leg spin pick in Swepson for the tour.

With a first class average of over 50 with the ball, and never having a five-for, - I'm not sure Zampa should really be in the frame for test selection.

Yep and also not sure what it has to do with Warne who isnt a selector and whose opinion holds no weight with selectors.

Interesting to hear Punter say that the best we can hope for is an honourable defeat. Can't really dispute that

While I agree we are a long shot to win a test against them let alone the series things are starting to look more positive with our batting than they have in a while. Our bowling should be more than solid as well.

I mentioned earlier this summer that Handscomb gets bowled far too often for a top order batsman and today's dismissal hasn't done anything to ease those concerns. I worry that on the low and slow pitches of India his lack of footwork will expose him to being bowled, especially if the ball is pitched up to half-volley length for most traditional batting stances.

Will be interesting to see how bowlers approach Handscomb in the future and how he handles specific plans against him.

It's being reported that Khawaja will be dropped for Shaun Marsh and that Mitch Marsh will be recalled!

Usman Khawaja to make way for Shaun Marsh in Test selection shock

Australia likely XI for first Test: David Warner, Matt Renshaw, Steve Smith (capt), Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Mitchell Marsh, Matt Wade, Mitchell Starc, Steve O’Keefe, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood

That's enough for me to disregard the series, if true.
