Starc out of the tour with a stress fracture in his foot. Does Bird come in or do we roll the dice on Cummins fresh from picking up 8 wickets in his first shield match in 6 years, or Pattinson who has picked up 4 out of 6 wickets so far in WAs second innings?

Dirk Nannes. He's played in India before. Got some shield wickets in 2006. No brainer if I think like the selectors.

Cummins is heading to India. Interesting to see whether he or Bird get the nod for the 3rd test.

A lot will depend on the pitch. If it's a road, maybe Stoinis comes into play as the 2nd seamer with a 3rd spinner selected? I heard during the 2nd test telecast that Ranchi is a low and slow pitch so it will be hard work for the quicks to make any inroads.

I reckon they'll go Cummins for variety. Bird is a bit too similar to Hazlewood.

Makes you wonder why they bother selecting a touring squad.

Looks like another dreadful pitch has been prepared for the 3rd test with no pace and bounce. I reckon Cummins will not be risked under such unhelpful conditions. Selection will be very interesting - we could go Bird and Khawaja as direct replacements for Starc and Marsh, or Bird and Maxwell as a 3rd spinner, or even Stoinis and Maxwell to shore up batting stocks whilst keeping 2 seamers and 3 spinners in the 11. Or do we pull the trigger on Cummins in the hope that he won't be required for long spells?

This would have been the test to go into with Mitch Marsh as the 2nd paceman and either Stoinis, Maxwell or even Agar as the 5th bowler. I suspect Cummins will play.

Same. Can't keep Cummins in cotton wool forever. Either he makes it nor he doesn't. If there was ever a time for hi me to play this is it. We need a strike bowler. He is likely to bowl 20 overs for the match.

Based on what I've seen of Maxwells bowling, I'm surprised he would be selected in front of either Khawaja or Stoinis

I just don't really see a situation when Smith would be calling for Maxwell/Stoinis over Lyon or O'Keefe. As a partnership breaker? Mmm I think Smith's own leggies are just as likely to strike.

Once again I'm back thinking we should be playing the 6 batsman. I don't even remember the last time Maxwell scored runs in first class cricket.

3rd Test: India v Australia at Ranchi

                              Cummins and Maxwell in.

                              Australia to bat first.
