Usman Khawaja to make way for Shaun Marsh in Test selection shock

Australia likely XI for first Test: David Warner, Matt Renshaw, Steve Smith (capt), Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Mitchell Marsh, Matt Wade, Mitchell Starc, Steve O’Keefe, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood
Totally ridiculous, Ussie is the best number 3 we have had for ages.

      Seems a wild manoeuvre!!

I know Usman has an awful record overseas, and is a pretty ordinary player of spin - but his recent record should be enough to give him first crack in India.

The Marsh love is out of control.

How close would the selection been between SOK and Agar? Agar hasn't done too much wrong and would add a lot of depth to the batting at number 8.

And puts a value on his wicket.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I'd personally go with O'Keeffe. His skidding round arm action will be more effective on Indian pitches than both Lyon and Agar IMO.

How can Khawaja get some valuable time in the middle and stake his claims for a spot (not that he needs to IMO, with so much recent runs in the bank) if he isn't even selected in the warm-up game?

              Staggeringly unfair.

Having the one warm up match didn't help but I agree, surely you play both? I wonder if Khawaja's sub-continental cards were stamped after being dropping in Sri Lanka

Simple mathematics more so. Two Marshs don't go into one vacancy at 6.

I can't believe that Mitchell Marsh isnonbtour let alone likely to play in the 1st test. He must have some major dirt over the selectors.

The talk this morning is that S Marsh has wrapped up number 4. The only debate is Khawaja or Renshaw to open

Using the Twodogs selection method then I think Renshaw gets the gig due to his fielding which I think is better.

Not a bad call really. He and Warner seemed to be developing a nice tempo to their partnership at home also.
