Revoked license but FFA want players to play last 4 games, even willing to pay their wages. Palmer not happy claiming he's happy to battle it out in the courts. Looks ugly...

Some serious questions have to be asked of the FFA, how 2 teams from qld can be extinct over the last few years is beyond me. Whoever did the research into these areas and thought they would be a viable option needs a kick up the backside!!! Their competition is a laughing stock.

They would be better off having a 6-8 team comp.

I have fears for Heart as well as I don't think any city can support more than 1 team.
          The curse is dead.

If there's one city that can do it, it's Melbourne.

But agree, a smaller comp would probably be a better thing, and structure and schedule it so that we're giving the Asian continental comp a good shake every year.

Also, throw in a cup competition, open to smaller, state-based clubs, with the big boys only joining at a latter stage (like the FA cup). Big guns win most often of course, but at least you get some interesting ties along the way. Will fewer teams in the A league, less money is tied up in the national league and can be spent on bringing state-level and grass-roots soccer up a few rungs in terms of quality. The English League isn't just great because of the money it has knocking about, but a 150 years of tradition built on the backs of 90+ clubs over 5+ divisions. A stronger state-level competition will mean a better A-league in the long-term.

Sad for soccer in Australia. It had to happen given Palmers attitude.

Don't think much about the Gold coast in general. Not sure how any sport could survive there in such a plastic manufactured place. I suppose the afl will pump plenty of $ in and they have more control.

Did the wrong thing going into Qld with three clubs.
North Qld and the Gold Coast were never going to work, never mind the fact they didn't do any work on the promotional front.Another arrogant obnoxious mining billionaire , who could imagine that.
The FFA have to look at West Sydney, Tassie, or Canberra for the new license.
West Sydney would be favourite I'd imagine.

I have a vague memory of Palmer being told by the state government that the public transport system to the ground could only cater for crowds of 5000 people unless he spent $$$ fixing it up. Palmer decided instead to limit the ground capacity to 5000.

The whole Palmer attitude has been disgraceful.
The club didn't even have a physio!!
The game's crap ( rugby league is better)
I'll whack any sponsorship and do whatever I want on the player shirts( blatant disregard for any governance)
I'll decide who is capt, and make a 17 year old take the captaincy.
Should be careful because Palmer just sues anybody who disagrees with him

                          Re: A League

FFA expanded at such a quick rate because they wanted the 'franchise' fees from the clubs founders

                          Palmer claims he paid $2M

I'm glad that the AFL's model is public rather than private ownership, meaning the owners ego's dont come into play

Palmer does raise some valid point eg why are some of FFA's administrators being paid so high

The idea of 2nd tier state and local based leagues and an FA cup style contest would help at a grassroots level, increasing patronage to the various clubs and unearthing new talented players

FFA doesnt care about that - they want the big Pay TV $$$s and dont want to make the game accensible to the public unless they pay for it

They wont grow the sport much from simply having these fabricated teams playing against one another in the plastic A-League

Vividly remember the Bears Skase Reuben ( can't remember his surname) Edelsten Sydney and going back to Bob Ansett and Norf. Nearly sent the comp broke

Yep I know a player who got huge dollars to play at Brissy, but didnt get a cent due to the Skase mess and the AFL didnt go guarantor, quite bad he was still fighting for it up to a couple of months ago.
The AFL arent the angels some think they are.

Rueben Pelerman. Bought the club as a belated birthday present for his wife and sold it about a year later having made a massive loss.

Never buy a sporting club and expect it to make money for you.
