I can agree with him , if port lose Butters they are going nowhere .
I mean yeah the saints are marginally ahead of port in their rebuild trajectory. But SA is also home for him. With a longer contract.

It's good news for smaller clubs. The saints will be under plenty of pressure the next 2 years to prove they're a contender.

Butters surely on his way out. It better be to us. If he goes to hawks/cats I'll be annoyed.

I can see it being Cats, Hawks, Dogs in that order. Geel rarely miss out on a target. Hawks seems to be a destination club (why the hell would you want to wear their plethora of hideous jumpers), and then ofcourse us.

hawks reckon they can get both Butters AND Reid. Obviously they have the same salary cap as Geel.

yep, I’ll be annoyed too, but I won’t be suprised one little bit.

I will never see #16 the same!!

Perhaps so but he loves Lyon, and Lyon sold him on a plan for the club a year or two back. If Lyon lives up to that then Nas signs again for a multi year deal.
If Lyon fails to deliver then Nas has the option of walking away. Nas has taken a risk but he has backed the coach, players and the club and we should all respect that.

I reckon his not as good as he used be does the odd specky only averaging 11 disposals a game for 1 goal. Although that might be more to do with Wet toast.

Sydney cast eye on big Blue Charlie Curnow for 2026, cool on Jamarra Ugle-Hagan

Sydney will attempt to lure Charlie Curnow to the Harbour City, with the 28-year-old identified as the Swans’ number one target in their search to boost their key forward stocks.

Sydney coach Dean Cox has made no secret of the fact that the Swans will be aggressive for players in the upcoming trade period to strengthen their team over the pre-season.

Code Sports understands the club has had preliminary internal discussions around Curnow, who is contracted to the Blues until the end of 2029. The development comes as they have also cooled their interest on Western Bulldogs forward, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.

Curnow, a two-time Coleman Medallist, was linked to a possible move to the Gold Coast Suns earlier this season, but he and coach Michael Voss quickly shut down those suggestions as he committed his future to Carlton.

“I’m playing at Carlton next year, so there you go,” Curnow said to reporters in the aftermath of their round 20 loss to Hawthorn.

“Nothing has happened, (I will) pretty much just put all my time into playing footy for this club this year and into future years.”

The news of his potential move piqued the interest of the Swans, who are set to explore what avenues are available to get Curnow into a red and white guernsey.

While the Swans are keen on Curnow, they are also aware Carlton is unlikely to entertain any talks in trading the key forward.

Yet the discussion is a clear sign of the Swans’ priorities for the future, as they want to target an experienced forward who can immediately have an impact. It’s part of the reason why, even though they are still monitoring Ugle-Hagan, he has dropped down their list.

The risk of making a play on the former number one draft pick, who has not played a game this season, is not something the Swans want to take on at this moment, particularly because the 23-year-old is in a similar age profile to some of their existing players.

Logan McDonald is also 23 and has a high ceiling, while Jack Buller (24), Joel Amartey (25) and McLean (26) are all just a few years older.

There is also a prevailing feeling at the Swans that if they can’t land an experienced player like Curnow, putting faith in McDonald and Amartey to get fit should be the priority.

The Swans had the best attack in the competition in 2024, with the trio of Amartey, McDonald and McLean combining for 107 goals during the year as they made the grand final.

The club is also aware that they are likely to draft highly-rated Academy product Max King this off-season, a promising forward prospect who stands at 192cm.

The Swans have a history of targeting big fish in the trade period, with Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin headlining the list after his high-profile move at the end of the 2013 season which surprised the competition.

Before that, they also prised Kurt Tippett out of the Adelaide Crows, while Tony Lockett had a storied career in the red and white after making the move from St Kilda.

Sounding increasingly unlikely that Butters leaves Port this year now that NWM has turned down Port.

TDK has signed with the saints on an 8 year deal worth 1.7 mil.

                      That's......something from the saints.

The Lions have been a very strong team for 7 consecutive years now and have a heap of high quality young players who will need to be paid very well in the near future and yet they are still able to sign opposition players on very large contracts.

It's difficult to believe that the AFL is not deliberately turning a blind eye to their true salary cap situation.

That sort of money with that length for a mediocre ruckman where they already have a decent player. It's strange. They have a lot or money tied up in King, Milera and now TDK.

But I guess look at the geelongs and Brisbane's who seem to have bottomless funds. Who else are the saints paying?
