Whispers that Kozzy Pickett may be looking to move back home. Melbourne may be going the scorched Earth route this off season.

It's gonna get interesting with tassie coming in to ruin a few drafts. Teams will be heavily trying to avoid being at the bottom in 2-3 years. Thankfully we *should* avoid that.

Rebuilding and loading up on picks now might not be the worst strategy for sides that identify they're not winning anything over the next 3-4 years. Get in before Tassie drains the draft pool. Hopefully we can benefit with a few missing pieces slotting in (small defender, small forward, pacy mid).

And then we'll get some good picks when Tassie raids us anyway.

                Re: Trade Rumours 2024

                Any interest in Rosas?

                PIES, CATS EYEING YOUNG SUN

Collingwood and Geelong are reportedly among the sides to have registered interest in out-of-contract Gold Coast onballer Alex Davies.

According to AFL Media’s Josh Gabelich, a two-year contract offer is sitting in front of the 22-year-old, but he is intent on surveying his options before coming to a decision.

The Suns Academy graduate has played just 32 AFL games in four seasons.

This seven-game stretch this year was arguably his most fruitful, averaging 15.6 disposals, 7.0 tackles and 3.4 clearances.

Gold Coast is stacked with top-end engine room talent, leaving Davies on the fringes for most of his career to date.

The Magpies’ midfield group is ageing and struggled with depth amid an injury-riddled premiership defence, with Jordan De Goey and Tom Mitchell each missing significant stints.

Meanwhile, the Cats have concerns between the arcs of their own, with high-performing veteran Patrick Dangerfield nearing an end and depth uncertainty underneath him.

Despite Davies’ uncontracted status, however, the 180-centimetre utility is a non-free agent meaning a trade deal would have to be struck if he did desire a departure.

Geelong holds Pick 16 in this year’s first round, while Collingwood currently isn’t slated to make a selection until the No. 32 slot.

LIVEWIRE FORWARD ‘FREE TO EXPLORE TRADE’

Gold Coast small forward Malcolm Rosas Jnr is reportedly free to explore his departure options this off-season, according to Seven’s Mitch Cleary.

Rosas, 23, is contracted through next season but saw a 12-game drop-off in senior matches this year from last season.

The mercurial NT Thunder product played seven AFL games in 2024 for a modest average of 7.3 disposals, 2.0 marks and 1.6 tackles, but his impact as a small forward is felt more in flashes than for the duration of a game.

Highly-touted Gold Coast Academy prospect Leonardo Lombard, while projecting long-term as a big-bodied midfielder, is likely to make his Suns start as a mid-sized forward, while coach Damien Hardwick already has Ben Ainsworth, Ben Long and Bailey Humphrey as medium options — leaving lesser opportunity for Rosas to impact.

Gold Coast is anticipated to be heavily involved in both importing and exporting talent this off-season, with Richmond’s Daniel Rioli and Collingwood’s John Noble each formally expressing their desire to move to Carrara.

Meantime, contracted assets Jack Lukosius and the aforementioned Davies will have rival suitors this October.

I like Rosas too because goals are sick but his pressure numbers are brutal. We would need to think we can make the penny drop for him.

If we were keen on a contracted Barrass we would probably also be interested in Collins if he could be wooed? He's 30 but doesn't miss games like Barrass.

Some noise around Sam Collins over the past few weeks among rivals, even though he's contracted at the

                      for 2025.

Initially the Suns offered to extend him until the end of 2026. He wanted longer term security, which piqued the interest of a few clubs looking for a key defender willing to offer that security.

Now it appears the Suns have come to the party. Understand they're prepared to extend him until the end of 2027. If he doesn't sign, he'll be a free agent in 12 months.

Yes to Collins, with him, Jones and Lobb it would secure our KP spots for next 3 years. Probably makes one of Buku and JOD superfluous to needs, so would look at trading Buku if he's interested in seeking a move.

My concern would be the trend towards smaller, mobile forward lines. We're exposed for depth in our smaller defenders and really need a replacement for Duryea. I think we have that player already on the list (Gallagher) but I'd be keen to bring another one in too.

Hell yes to Collins. Jones is amazing but he is 33yo and we need a future replacement. Collins is an elite key stopping defender, and every team needs at least one of those - while Jones is still flying, it frees him up to be even more of a McGovern style defensive patroller of wherever the danger is, all while Buss/JOD keep developing and Lobbovich continues to evolve and refine his key defensive craft.

Also agree wholeheartedly that we are light-on for quality small defensive depth and we absolutely need to address this in the off-season.

                            Re: Trade Rumours 2024

                            Biggest needs for me are:

Small/med defender (though Gallagher and/or McNeil should also be trialled there over the pre-season)
Small/med forward (finishing is a must)
Mature key defender (young enough to play for 3+ years)

Depending on the above, I'm also keen on another back up ruck because Timmy isn't likely to play 23 weeks a year and Smith is no where near ready and may never be. Rucks are tricky though, you can't have too many or else it doesn't make sense and development becomes harder. If we get another key defender in, it does mean Lobb can take over the role if needed so a back up isn't required in that scenario.

Our midfield also needs some more high end talent coming in and that's what I'd be targeting in the draft with the pick we get for Baz.

Not sure Bevo would want Collins. We had our chance getting when short of key backs. Speed is an issue. Very much a one position player.

So is Steven May and Jacob Weitering. So is Tom Barrass really.

I think Champion Data has Collins as the best negating key defender in the comp this season (McGovern is the best overall key defender).

He is about a year older than Tom Barrass, so would still have a good 3-4 years at his peak. He doesn't have huge miles in the legs either, being a late starter.
