Jones might be 34 next year but you’d have to assume that he plays. Lobb looks unreal down back. Both these guys are better right now than Collins - would he even get a game in round 1 next year if he came across?

I get the need for future proofing but Collins will be 31 next year himself, and I think if he plays his skill set limits him to being the main stopper. Doesn’t seem like a good fit.

So is Steven May and Jacob Weitering. So is Tom Barrass really.

I think Champion Data has Collins as the best negating key defender in the comp this season (McGovern is the best overall key defender).

He is about a year older than Tom Barrass, so would still have a good 3-4 years at his peak. He doesn't have huge miles in the legs either, being a late starter.

Same argument could be made for Barrass, couldn't it?

I really like Collins. His dad coaches Donvale who were on a 30 game winning streak earlier this season - a really good coach, and once I realised the connection I wasn't as surprised by Sam's dedication, attention to detail and consistency.

Not sure Bevo would want Collins. We had our chance getting when short of key backs. Speed is an issue. Very much a one position player.

Same argument could be made for Barrass, couldn't it?

I really like Collins. His dad coaches Donvale who were on a 30 game winning streak earlier this season - a really good coach, and once I realised the connection I wasn't as surprised by Sam's dedication, attention to detail and consistency.

Barrass can do other stuff though - actually intercepts, has nice skills, and would be an immediate upgrade in the JOD/Buku spot. Collins is a blanket, which is great but we already have that and more.

They are a team on the rise who are handing him a huge contract in terms of both dollars and length. St Kilda look to be going nowhere, what's not to get?

It was a tongue in cheek comment regarding their jumper, not their list.
Things can turn fairly quickly…hawks are confident…a few big losses and that could change. I don’t think their list is a top 8 list, and I doubt anyone would’ve picked them to finish any higher than 12th this year. Me included.
I guess we shall see where both these teams are in 3-4 years time.

How would you feel as a current Hawthorn defender in the lead-up to your first final with all these other players joining the club next year? Surely it's a distraction and would put more pressure on you?

I don't think you want confirmation of players coming or going until your season is over.

I'm loving all this focus on incoming players and next year's prospects for Hawthorn. Sicily talking up the list for 2025.

Obviously they've got a ton of faith in Frost if they're actively trying to find replacements for him.

Yeah I don't think I've seen player announce for active clubs before. They normally wait till their destinations season is over.
