    Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk

Reporting that Essendon are budgeting a future 3rd as the price they'll pay for Hill. I know they are arseholes and this is standard behaviour, but is Hill worth more than that?

Assuming we get 43 for Lipinski, could we have a standing offer with Gws of a future 2nd, plus pick 43/44/45, for Hill and a future 3rd back? Or something like that? From my rough calculations that would give us enough to match a pick 3 or later Darcy bid.

This assumes Hill meets our criteria, and also his desire to get back to Vic means that he'd rather come to us than stay in Sydney, but has the bonus of we either get him or we force Essendon to pay more cause stuff them.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

I read that last night. Hill is worth a late first rounder, maybe and early 2nd rounder but a 3rd rounder is highway robbery. Still, stranger things have happened.

        He's right hopefully they do.

But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

          Re: 2021 Trade Period Talk

Greater Western Sydney is contemplating making a shock move for star Hawk Chad Wingard in a bid to supercharge its premiership assault.

Wingard’s name emerged as an option after Bobby Hill’s weekend trade request to Essendon, in the knowledge Hawthorn is willing to offload experienced talent to accelerate the club’s rebuild.

It’s understood the Giants would part with Hill, who is contracted until the end of next season, only if they could replace him with another small forward.

There have been preliminary discussions between the clubs, but it’s unclear whether Wingard would be willing to relocate to Sydney to play for a third AFL club after starting his career at Port Adelaide.

His four-year deal after crossing from the Power expires at the end of next season.

The GWS interest in Wingard comes a decade after he told the Giants not to draft him, warning them he would return to South Australia at his first opportunity.

The Hawks have informed rivals they would consider paying part of players’ salary – as in the case of contracted ruckman Jon Ceglar – to help make a deal happen.

There would have to be a similar arrangement for any potential Wingard deal, if the 28-year-old green lights a move to the Harbour City.

After Wingard was overlooked by GWS in the draft due to the go-home factor it seems weird he would finally end up there.

This is the lamest trade period ever.

Clubs are stressed with their salary cap, was always going to be a bit on the tame side.

Being in a premiership window when you have won a total of two flags means you need to be ruthless to give your team the best chance of winning a third.

I'd shop JJ around and look at bringing in a Wingard-type with that list spot and reduced cap. Someone needs a fast HBF in their prime and we could still certainly use Wingard in our forward line. I mean we're playing JJ as a forward who is half the player Wingard is in that role. They're the same age.

                    Thoughts?

No doubt, but given how we’re placed and the deficiencies on our list, if all we do is bring in O’Brien I’ll be pretty nonplussed.

If Wingard is available I think he could be a great acquisition in the exact role you’ve outlined.

We were into him when he chose the Hawks and the word was our indigenous program or lack thereof was a deciding factor in his decision.

My concern is Bevo is very loyal to guys like JJ so I can’t see him moving a guy like that against his will.

Surely we have the cap space.

I’m happy with O’Brien, am I missing something? He seems to fit a need and we got him for nothing.

I guess we take the good with the unfortunate. Bevo has the relationship he does with his players meaning these decisions are difficult. This should be a decision for our list manager though.

I'm not sure re. our cap space but I have a feeling we're right up there.

Getting O’Brien as a FA is good business but if that’s all we do, it’ll be disappointing and means we’re more than likely staring down another wasted season in 2022.

I think the cost and role are fine, but he is an ok player and I don't think we realistically should put much expectation on him. It's a swing at a guy who could play a role or end up at Footscray by August next year.
We are pretty hamstrung by what we can offer to bring players in, given the draft capital given up last year and the need to accrue picks to get Darcy at 2 or 3, so I'm not sure we should have huge expectations. Clearly there's not the interest in Wallis or JJ we (and I mean this board) thought there might be.
