Re: 2023 List Management Thread
Pick 12 and 19 for Pick 6 (roughly) doesn't really sound like a great deal. Especially if a player we want is taken (i.e. McKercher).
I'd be questioning if we need Croft, and if there are other players who would better suit us.W00F!Comment

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
There are rarely surprises in the top 10, we will likely know exactly who will be available at our pick. And Croft for a bunch of 2nd and 3rd round picks is a bargain.Comment

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
I don't think it is as simple as that though.
If we take Croft it means we forego a first round talent who might be better suited to what we actually need from a list profile perspective. Taking Croft also means we lose second/third round picks.W00F!Comment

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
And if we take pick 12 and 19 we forego a top 6 pick and Croft who is currently rated just outside the top 10. I get what you are saying but I don't think there is a club that wouldn't take pick 6 and Croft. We traditionally draft for talent rather than needs in the first round and pick 6 and Croft > picks 12 and 19.Comment

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
This is what concerns me. I agree with the approach generally speaking, but given our list needs after taking the likes of Naughton/Marra/Darcy/Busslinger, I'm not sure using another first rounder on a KPP is what we need. And if we take pick 12 and 19 we forego a top 6 pick and Croft who is currently rated just outside the top 10. Hypothetically if Croft was on the open market (not F/S) and we had Pick 10-15 (whilst also having an earlier pick) would we take him? I have my doubts.
We'd want to be really confident that Croft can be a star KPP to do it. More to that, we'd want to be confident he can be a star KPD because he's unlikely to dislodge Naughton, Marra or Darcy from the forward half of the ground.W00F!Comment

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
I've been questioning the need for Croft since mid way through the season when it became apparent he would be first round selection.
We already have 3 young key forwards and our list profile from age is perspective is not in a great space compared to our onfield results.More of an In Bruges guy?Comment

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
Same, don't need him. Can't see the point the list needs to be balanced.
I get the feeling it will be the two picks.
However I guess two top 20 talents coming in isn't a bad thing.
Let's hope Croft can maybe develop as a key back.BT COME BACK!

Re: 2023 List Management Thread
I'm sure it doesn't actually factor in Power and Co's decision making but there is an element of 'what if' with father-sons too - especially potential power-forwards with rare athletic traits. I'm not a huge draft watcher, but I haven't loved what I've seen of Croft, yet I'd still take him because he COULD project as an Eric Hipwood and it'd be horrendous to see that happen somewhere else.
I think we're in a strong position with Croft if we manage to trade down. We get a 'banker' at pick 6, then can package together some mediocre selections for a high-risk, high-reward prospect who will have time to develop in the twos without any expectation.Comment
